Question about Brother MFC-8840D All-In-One Laser Printer

BROTHER MFC-8840D "Check Scan Lock" error message

I purchased my Brother printer new over 4 years and it's been great. Unfortunately, It recently displayed "Check Scan Lock" message on LCD and the printer will NOT print or scan anything. The scan lock button has never been used until I tried that simple troubleshooting tip and it did not resolve the problem. Is there a solution for a home user besides taking it in to Brother repair shop?

    "Check Scan Lock" appears in the display window but the scan lock is in the OFF position, i.e., w/o the red showing. In fact, the scan lock lever won't slide all the way ON! Of course, the machine will not do either ADF or flatbed scanning. ??????????????????????

    It will, fortunately, still print from the computer.

I had the same problem. It means the scanner lamp is in the park position and is stuck. You need to lean the printer away from the sheet feed side and bump it on the side. This may fix it. If it doesn't turn off the power and remove the two screws that hold the scanner lid on. Then remover the other 6 screws located under the lid on the left side while the lid is hanging from lid open sensor cable be carefull not to drop the lid, break the cable or the glass bed. After removing the base screws you can set the lid on the scanner again while you lift the scanner bed exposing the scan lamp mechanism. Push it a few inches in the machine and close the lid. You can do a test by powering the unit on and hold the lid open sensor button located on the bottom left of the lid. The system should initialize and bring the scan lamp back to the proper position. Turn off replace all screws and your done. If it doesn't work the first time push the scanner lamp farther into the scanning area and repeat. Good Luck

HOW DO I un-lock the scanner on a Brother MFC 7420?


Unfortunately, the MFC-7420 doesn't have a physical lock switch. You need to turn off the all-in-one and wait for the unit to clear its memory. If the error recurs after you press the power button again, wait 30 minutes and try again. (Note: you will lose any faxes that are in memory. See the User Guide page 11-5 to save this information.) You can also try unplugging the all-in-one for several minutes to reset the error codes. If the error persists, contact Brother if the MFC-7420 is still under warranty (1 year). If it isn't under warranty, consider replacing the unit. The repair costs may be unreasonable.

BROTHER P-TOUCH IS not printing


It is obvious it has a failed electronic component, since these are not repaired/exchanged except when they are under warranty best thing to do is just replace it.

This is codes for the ink cartridge. The code means there is a problem with the cartridge. Change them both and restart the machine.

Laser printer makes light clicking noise when idle


When idle is potentially the fuser unit, after heating and cooling. However the print quality issue associated with the clicking sound could indicate an electrical issue. The HVPS maybe faulty causing the print quality issue (due to dependant parts) and the electrical click. In any case I would recommend calling Brother and finding the nearest authorised service agent.
