When you say the time machine i would assume its the system restore. You can click start then run then type in msconfig then click on launch system restore. Although there are some viruses that are still there after a system restore. YOu can try to use free trials from 2 that I regularly use together. and

In a situation like this it's most likely you have come across a virus, whether it be a trojen, worm, ect. Backup all your important files from your computer, documents, pictures, movies, music. Once this is done, reinstall your copy of Windows XP, and make sure you have a good anitvirus, malware, and spyware programs I recommend using either Avira Anti-Virus or AVG for virus protection, Malware Bytes for malware, and Super Anti Spyware for spyware, all of which can be obtained freely. You can find these programs on Just search for them, and you can download them from this site. Install your protection after installing XP, then run a scan on your backup data before you put it back onto the computer, just in case any of these files may be infected!

Can not get it to turn on

Download Hiren Boot cd from! (9Down.COM) Hiren's BootCD v10.0
Instruction on how to use it...
  • The disk is downloaded as an ISO file. The ISO files can be burned using software programs such as Nero. Burn the disk to a DVD instead of a CD by using a program such as IMGBurn.

  • Booting
  • Once the disk is burned, place it on a DVD or CD drive on the computer and restart the computer. After the computer displays its default first screen, the disk will scan and load the Hiren's Boot menu. The menu gives users three options. The options are to start the computer normally, load Mini Windows XP or load the disk. Choose the disk-loading option to work within the disk parameters and run in DOS. DOS is a simplified process that uses only text. The CD provides shortcuts to each utility.

  • Mini Windows XP
  • To clear a virus and use a large collection of Hiren's Boot tools, choose the Mini Windows XP option. A simple version of Windows XP will load on the computer. It might take a few minutes to load everything because it processes files directly from the CD. Once it has loaded, wait for the Hiren's Boot disk menu to pop up. Select the "Menu" option and scroll through the programs. The disk features Windows password hackers, registry cleaners and a large collection of antivirus software.

  • Antivirus
  • A main portion of the disk feature antivirus software. Spybot-Search and Destroy scans a computer for the most likely spyware and removes it. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware finds root kit viruses and Trojans that could affect computers and spread through networks. Super Antispyware is an all-in-one scanner that detects and eliminates all types of viruses. Run one scan at a time. Do multiple scans because one program might find a virus that another program misses.

Can I put stuff from a comp. w/ a virus onto a maxtor hard drive

Yes, naturally it depends on the virus, what kind it is and where it is stored. Most of the time you can safely transfer files to another hard drive worry free. I would not use a program such as "Ghost" that copies all your system's drivers over. Only save necessary files, format your old hard drive and re-load everything.

    Hope this helps,

Won't start up windows xp after installing antivirus

Sounds like a virus you had on your system was linked onto one of your important system files. If you have a system rescue disk, probably included with the system you bought if you bought it new, use it. It won't delete any of your files, but it will restore any missing system files that windows needs to start.
If that doesn't work, you will probably have to format the disk and start over.

For future reference, always make a backup of your system before deleting files with viruses in them. Most anti virus programs will tell you to do this as well.

The best way to delete any unwanted content is to install and run the Philips Device Manager software from the product CD, and select the restore option.

This software is only compatible with Windows XP.

Viruses would not cause damage to the MP3 because they do not run any files loaded on to them

Computer gets stuck loading win xp

Hiya ya, It sound to me you could be courripted with spy ware or a virus i will recommend using Ad-Aware SE Personal install this and run it! - you can find Ad-Aware SE Personal from this direct download link - This is a very good program i have been using Ad-Aware now for around 2 years and it's super. However if you have a virus you can use Avg_free - If you are already using norton or somthing like that REMOVE IT because personally Nortons Crap" Its not recommended - to remove your anti-virus go to Startmenu Settings/control panel /Add or remove Programs, Select the anti-virus program and press remove. After you done that! close all windows and open internet explorer with this link (explorer will open automaticlly) - install that and run it on a virus check from the Avg test centre - If they don't work Then i would recommend a full deep clean for windows Xp But before you do that if you can Back-up any files that you want to keep as you need to Fully formatt C:/ drive (this is normally the drive that windows runs on) If you would need help at doing this On the telephone i can be contacted on * 0906 179 0906 (Call cost £1.50p/minute) @ all times. In the meantime take care And keep it hardcore = HTID = Hardcore till i die!
