I am assuming you have windows xp. If not, the solution will be different.

you have to repair explorer.exe.

try this first.
1. Push the button to turn computer on. Wait for one second, then tap F8 repeatedly. Choose safe mode. Click administrator. If it gives you the prompt with 'yes' and 'no' buttons. Click no. Restore the computer and choose a date when the computer was working.

If you get nothing in safe mode, you have to look for your windows xp cd.
and follow the instructions here to repair windows.
I have to warn you that repairing windows may work or may make your windows inaccessible. This is the best option you have though. As a last resort, you need to reinstall windows.
To make the repair work optimally, make sure you use the reinstallation cd for windows xp WITH SERVICE PACK 2. If your xp disc doesn't say service pack 2 on it, you can look for one that does or just use what you have.

How to set up my desktop in a clean way?

The Desktop Cleanup Wizard is a component included with Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. It aims to reduce the clutter in a user's desktop environment by moving unused shortcuts to a separate directory called "Unused Desktop Shortcuts"

If you are not using XP .
1.Right click on desk top.
2.Go to sort by and choose an option
3.Right click on desk top
4.Choose New
5.Select Folder. This will create a folder on your desk top which you can drag and drop all desk top icons that you do not need regularly.
6.Create another folder and use it for down loads. This will keep it clean.

Click into control panel and right click on "taskbar and start menu. This will bring up a window where you can auto hide , move etc. In the options in window check,"locktool bar", "keep toolbar at top of other winows", and "show quick launch". Uncheck anything else. I recently installed Norton Anti Virus on my computer and now I can't get back to the start menu or the icons that were installed on my desk top. The reason I installed the Norton is because someone else...

This is a problem I see very often, its down to antivirus 2010 (which btw you prob have already guessed is not a legitimate antivirus, its malware)

The only way to fix this properly is to use an antivirus boot cd (it wouldnt let you install anything otherwise, the norton you tried to install it has corrupted)

Look on google for AVG boot cd, its easy to make but you'll have to use another pc to do so.

Once you've run it and its cleaned the infections then reboot the machine and see if you can login properly now, if not then you'll need to go for a reinstallation of the operating system (I prefer to do this anyway as its always faster)

I have lost my sound on my desk top pc how do i retrive it bk again

maybe you selected the wrong sound driver. go to control panel. go to sounds, speech, and audio devices. go to sounds and audio devices. go to audio. sound playback, check the device and if diffrent change it and see if that works.

your main volume on all channels where droped. some applications can cause this to happen.
go to start. all programs. go to accessories. go to entertainment. volume control. ensure the volume is up on there. Then if it has it on your volume controll. click on speaker volume that is over top the main volume controll. and make sure your computer speakers didn't drop volume.

make sure the mute is not checked

If not on your desk top can be found in start menu.
After you open it right click the C drive.

In the drop down menu choose properties. On the top of the window choose the Tools tab.
You will see a option to Check Now. Click the Check Now button make sure both little boxes have a check in them and click the start button. It will say it won't start till PC is rebooted. Reboot the PC and let it run through it's scanning and fixing thing.
This may or may not fix the problem. It's only one of the things to try.

Please rate, and write testimonial if you feel the need to, if this was helpful.

Windows Vista Pavillion PC Problems with date & time sidebar

The best solution is to re-install vista. But, for the sidebar problem, try searching for "sidebar.exe" in the start menu. When you find it, right click it, click properties, then checkmark "start sidebar when WIndows starts"
