Dust inside lens of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H55 digital camera

There is what looks like a speck of dust inside the lens of my Sony Cyber-shot camera which appears as a smudge when the photographs are developed.

That is more than likely to be dish on the sensor of the camera (or CCD) you can get do it yourself kits but this is tricky as the sensor is inside the camera. Your best bet is to take it to a camera shop who should clean it for about 30 or 40 pounds, and guarantee it for a certain period too. Or you could send it off if there are no local photography shops, search for "CCD cleaning" online. Hope this helps!

Lens mechanism is broken due to dropped. You need to replace lens assembly. If you know how to apart camera and replace lens assembly then let me know to guide you. Or take camera to local repair shop for fix.

The lens due to some problems is not intialising ...... most commonly it may be dust particles getting stuck in the lens barrel ...... or the barrel itself is damaged ...... get it repaired from a repairman ..... as opening a lens is a difficult procedure ...and you may end up messing up the whole thing ......

Camera Dilemma :(

Hi

Sounds like your lens is defective and needs to be repaired or replaced. Sometimes its just a speck of dust in the lens, other times its damage to the gears or something else; you never know till you open up the lens and see.

If you take the lens out of the camera, tear it down, clean the gears and put it back in the camera it may start to work again.
