Help! Hi I am having trouble with my sony camera. Every time I turn the camera ON, the lens starts going out and the in for several times. Then, the screen tells me to turn the camera OFF. It seems to me that the lens cants find home position and cycles through its operation to stop at home but can't. Is there something I can do. Sincerely Jose

I have the exact same camera as you..
i had the exact same problem as you did too..i got so mad
this worked for me, so i think it will work for you
1.take the batteries out of the camera
2.hold the power button for 30 seconds
3.let go of the power button, and wait 1 minute
4.stick the batteries back in
5.turn the power on, and it should stop acting crazy
if this helped, great

reset the camera to default through the menu if possible
if this doesnt help, pull the battery out and media card.let the camera sit for 5 insert a ne card, and install new batteries. If this doesnt work it may have to go back to Sony for service

Camera not switching on

I believe there is a lens error, usually that message appears when the lens are stuck or not working.
Turn the camera ON by pressing the "play" button (to see images only) and if the camera turns ON with no problem, then the problem lies on the lens.
you can send the camera for repair or buy a new lens set from ebay, they go for around 30 dollars, but you have to be familiarized with cameras and very careful in order to install the new lens.

hope this helps.

Every time I turn on my camera the lens goes in and out several times and then says "Turn the power off and on again". I did it several times and it's still not working.

First off how long have you owned the camera and how long have you had this problem? This unfortunately is fairly common. Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,

Hello, there is a problem with the optical unit (lens). Normaly when the camera is in camera mode the lens should go out. In your case it seems that for some reason the lens is stuck. Please contact your nearest Sony dealer. If you want to repair the camera yourself please tell me. I can send some additional info as well. Regards, Arpi

This problem is not related to plugging your camera into your computer. This is a symptom we have seen many times with various Sony cameras over several years of production. As far as we have been able to determine it is a problem with the sensor that feeds back the position of the zoom motor. I had a camera just a few days ago with this exact same issue. I swapped out the controller board and it did not change the behavior at all. I would suggest either sending the camera to a repair facility, or returning it to the manufacturer for service if you wish to get it repaired. The resolution will probably involve replacement of the set of sensors that feed-back the lens position to the control board. This issue is a problem with most Sony cameras, and as I said we have seen it several times and have not yet been able to identify the source. We forward cameras with this behavior on to Sony for service. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
