Constant blinking green light - will not print anything - possible cartridge mismatch issue

Hi,

I have a Canon BJC 240. I've been printing with it using a black ink only cartridge. When I go to print something that has color in it too, it tells me there is a cartridge mismatch and asks me if I want to proceed anyway - warning me that things may not look alright. I say go ahead, it prints it anyway, and all is fine.

Until one time, when I clicked ignore like usual, and things weren't fine and haven't been since. Since this one time, when it did not print anyway, the green light on the front has been flashing and it will not print anything - not from notepad, not from a command prompt, not a test page. Things line up in the queue and eventually say "error-cartridge mismatch" but it never even asks that question anymore. I have restarted the printer numerous times; I have restarted the computer. I have taken the cartridge out and put it back it in. Nothing changes it.

When you turn it off and back on, it makes all the usual noises. When it comes back on the light goes solid yellow briefly and then resumes it's flashing green. As far as I can tell there is no communication between the printer and computer anymore, but I can't tell what would have messed it up or why I can't restore it.

Thanks for any thoughts.

My Canon BJC 240 shows a yellow light when I turn it on, it should just go straight to green. I found a few "resets" to try like holding in the resume and power buttons while reattaching the power cord. But nothing seems to work. I've gone through all of the windows trouble shooting steps like printing with a command prompt, and yes now it seems there is no contact from the printer to the computer at all.

The problem originally started when the printer ran out of paper. Upon pressing resume with more paper loaded, it hasn't worked the same since.

Normally these machine will report an error in the form of a flash code. Green then a number of orange flashed then pause and repeat. Count the number of orange flashes, then go on line to google (or whatever your preferred search engine) and type
canon x orange error code (where x is the number of orange flashes). This should tell you WHAT the problem is and from there you should be able to fix it. I suspect you have a foreign object error in which case have a look at each end of the carriage path for a piece of paper. It is also likely that given the age of your machine that you will have a 5 flash code meaning the printhead has died, in which case it's time for a new machine.

SOURCE: Isn't printing at all...

I would not go out and buy new cartridges without trying the following. Go into the procedure of removing and re-installing the cartridges. While the cartridges are out, inspect for probable damage to the cartrigdes. Sometimes there can accumulate waste inks and interfere with the contacts. With a damp Q-tip, clean the contacts and wipe it dry. Concerned about the lint on the Q-tip? Use coffee filter. A readily available lint-free wipe. Re-install the cartridges and test. BTW, are you using genuine Canon inks? 3rd party inks can exhibit that error. Best Regards.

Problem seems to be with your Ink Tank(s) or Printing Head. Replace both of them one by one and retry.

Printer will not print in black was the first problem and now after less than a minute after turning on it has the light for 'on' flashing green and amber constantly

Try this:
1- Pull the cartridges out, restart printer then reinstall the cartridges again
2- The blinking can mean any of these: paper out, paper jam, cover open, printing error. Please check that there is enough paper, no paper jam (sometimes even the smallest piece of paper will cause that error, then restart both (the printer and the computer)
Best of luck

Canon bjc 240/orange light stays on

The blinking orange light could mean one or more of the following: -Home position error -Waste ink full error -Temperature sensor error -Printing position correction error -Cleaning error -Printer memory error I would probably clean the waste ink tank first. Make sure you unplug it first. Take the cartridge out and clean real good at the bottom.

PROBLEM COPYING WITH MY ALL- IN- ONE

This message is inbuilt into most Canon printers, there is spongy thing in the printer which when fills up fires the message (it's mostly a counter in the printer, which can be reset more later...), per Canon this can only be dealt with in a lab but some of the more adventurous have tried cleaning it by themselves. Note that in a lab they won't clean it, it's a part that needs replacing and it might cost around $60. In most Canon printers there is a reset procedure that can reset the error and allow you to print some more before handling it again. Following are the reset procedures for some of the Printers: (not that F60 isn't listed here) Canon GENERIC "S" SERIES RESET CODE Waste Ink Counter Reset. (1) Turn off the printer. (2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button. (3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset" or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode". (4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press. 1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check. 2. EEPROM - Info printout. 3. EEPROM - Initialization. 4. Reset the Waste ink counter. 5. Printer model setting. (More selections beyond this point - However it is best leave them unaltered - You have been warned!) After selecting the desired mode (eg 4), press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu.
