Question about Magellan Meridian Gold GPS Receiver
My magellan meridian gold comes on, locates 3 or 4 satellites, then stops at the screen that says collecting data. it never goes any further than that. i can't find the cd that came with it. i bought a serial to usb adapter but i probably can't use that without the cd. Any help?
If your GPS has been OFF for a long time, and you turn in ON somewhat more than 200 miles from where it thinks it is, then it might have trouble seeing the satellites it thinks it should see.
First check to see that the unit is set to the current time, if it's off by more than a couple minutes then set it as close as you can, see below. Then set the approximate location, you can do this using the unit to select a nearby city.
If the unit, on the otherhand, has been used successfully alot for a long time, then it could have what's called BADRTCR bad realtime counter error. This also means that the displayed time is off from WWV shortwave, or other NIST time references, and it will have a hard time acquiring satellites if you move your GPS while it's trying to do that. You might have to do a [menu] [setup] [clear memory] [all] operation, but save all your waypoints and tracks.
