Booting problem My toshiba portege m100 just got a virus on the OS (windows XP) nI want to reinstall the OS, but it seems the CD, and USB can't be booted and yeah I already put the CD in the first order and after some crazy circumstances I accidentally format the HD n now the HD is OS less , n when I boot from the HD it ask for system disk. N I also tried a SD card and yes I've put it in the first order, n yes I've made sure of it. So any idea as to how I can install an OS

Hi bimozx
Have you tried going into your bios and selecting boot from cd drive??
try that and put your windows cd in the drive, power down and then power up again!

Toshiba portege m100. lost windows xp. how do I clean install windows. no cd drive only usb ports. will not boot pxe.tried windows on formated flash drive, still no result.

Making a bootable flash drive involves a few tricks. I have had much better success using a utility to do the setup on those. Doing it manually works but not all the time.

I'd beg borrow or buy a usb dvd drive and boot off the install cd if nothing else. These have really dropped in price and are handy to have around.

I'm assuming you have set the bios to boot from the flash drive before it hits the hard drive? You would also have to set it to hit the usb dvd drive prior to the hd as well if you go that way.

When you get it booted it will ask if you want to format the drive before installing. You can also just pick a new directory to put windows in as well.

Don't forget to download all the drivers from Toshiba. You will need system info, video, and a network at the very least to get running and able to download the rest. These are very handy on a flash drive to plug in when you get xp started.

Installing Windows XP OS from CD

I have been installing XP on Portege M200 laptops.
I use a usb floppy to install the latest bios update from Toshiba's support site.
After the update the laptop will boot from a USB Cd/DVD drive.
be patient the first part of the up date goes extreamly slowly but it seems to keep working and the install will work.

Hi,

With the notebook off plug the USB drive into a port, hold down "F12" when powering up and choose your Boot-device (USB).

If there is no option to boot from the USB (Removable Device) then chances are you are going to need a BIOS update which you can download from the Toshiba support website.

Regards.

Reformat/Reinstall Refresh on hdd

You should provide either CD/DVD rom to boot your sytem in bootable disc.
And you should provide windows XP/2000 bootable disk.

You will need:

CD/DVd Rom
Bootable windowsxp/2000 to reinstall your system.

Note; reformatting or reinstalling your system all files will be remove. you should back up important files before doing.
