You never mention what operating system it uses XP,Vista. If its vista you will need to take it in to a shop as the safeguards have been upgrade but most good computer shops have the software to bypass the password protection. If it's XP you can go into the bios to get around it. On start-up press f8 then safemode. You can then add another adminastor acct.and pass word. Then you can go to regular startup again.Once you have started the computer It will show the new acct and your on your way.Once you've got the computer running go into the control panel and remove their password from the acct and all should be well. I have done this several times on XP but it wont work on vista. I hope this helps you

Here I collect some popular solutions to help reset HP laptop password if your laptop installed Windows system such as Windows 7/Vista/XP.
Solution 1 Reset HP laptop password by another user account with administrator privilege.
Solution 2 Reset HP laptop password with Offline Windows Password & Registry Editor.
Solution 3 Reset HP password with professional password recovery tool.
If you do not have another administrator account on HP laptop or you have little experience in Windows or LUNIX operations, you can use Windows Password Rescuer to help reset HP password without lose date. This software was provided by DAOSSOFT corperation, it supports HP laptop password recovery in Windows 7/Vista/XP and HP computer installed Windows 7/Vista/XP/2008/2003/2000.
when booting after the post (beep) press the F8 key and load in safe mode. from there try and login as Administrator, 99% of computers have no password for that login. if you have the welcome screen just click on it, if you have the network login type in "Administrator"
from there you can goto the control panel access the user accounts and change/remove the passwords (this is based on the idea your computer is running xp/vista...based on data from hp i'm going to guess XP is what your running)
I don't know what OS your HP laptop is
If it is Windows 8, Windows Password Hint,
PIN code, Microsoft account can be used to login HP laptop. After logon
successfully, change, recover or reset Windows 8 password
If it is Windows 7, Password hint or another
administrator account may help you. But if you don't have all of these, try
password reset disk. Create it before Windows 8 locked or with Windows
8 Password Recovery tool is OK.
Besides these, Chntpw USB disk also works
for Windows 7/Vista etc.
