Suddenly the picture in the view screen became blurry and appeared as though the picture was melting vertically with purple hues (the view being indistinguishable) and the resultant picture although showing more definition was blurry. When viewing past pictures they were perfect. The only event that was different than usual was the camera was passed through a security X-ray machine. I have tried a formal reset which has made no difference. When the memory card is put in another Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T1 it works fine.

I have the same problem. The camera has worked perfectly since I purchased it in 2004. Suddenly the pictures are distorted and appear to be melting vertically. Nothing seems to correct the problem ie. reset or removing and replacing battery etc. Sony offers little help. Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise it becomes a digital paperweight, thanks Sony.

I too appear to have the same problem. DSC-T1 has worked pefectly since I purchased it in 2004. Suddenly the pictures are distorted and look as though they are melting vertically. Tried to reset it and remove and replace battery as Sony suggested, still not working. Would appreciate any help, otherwise it becomes a digital paperweight. Also, I never put it through xrays nor was it ever dropped. Thank you Sony for another wonderful short lived experience.

since last week i got exactly the same problem !

I have the same problem.  It's been happening for awhile, but not consistently.   Some pics have terrible vertical melting, others, not.  I've changed the battery in hopes that was the issue.  Both the old AND new battery don't seem to be holding a charge well.  Wonder if these two problems are related.    I followed the link that the user below suggested.  After trying the "movie test"  it does not appear that "our" problems are covered under the mentioned recall.   Maybe the cameras are just old!  I also got mine around 2004.

I have had great luck with my DSC T-1, having taken over 10,000 pics since I bought it several years ago. No problems.

Yesterday, I had the same melting image look onscreen, and with the pictures themselves.  Also on movie mode.  I thought it was cold, as it was below freezing outside, but it is the same today in my office.

Strangely, last week it took beautiful pictures and has been flawless.  Why is this happening to so many cameras all of a sudden??  Cristi, North Carolina

Tip

Blurry Photos

Good day,

I have heard a lot of complaints about people taking Blurry Photos.

There are a few possibilities for it and a few easy fixes.

The first possibility I would identify is a dirty lens. To fix this simply take a clean microfiber cloth and gently clean the lens until there are no smudges visible.

The other possibility I would identify is that the pictures are out of focus.
This problem can be caused by a dirty lens or because the object or person was not focused on. To ensure focus on your photos, line up your shot and wait for the camera to focus by pressing the shutter button half way down. When focused press the shutter button in all the way and hold the camera still until the photo appears on the screen. By doing this you will eliminate any motion that might mess up your shot.

Please let me know if these tips work for you!

Can't tell when Rebel xt is focused

So the problem is that it always looks blurry?
If so, look at the little dial that is coming out of the viewfinder. It corrects the viewfinder for people with bad eyesight, kind of like built in glasses. make sure the white marks are lined up.
