It is not possible to obtain the key to your cd, as windows 98 is no longer supported for help by microsoft, if you need to obtain a key for your windows 98 disc then i suggest you try to goto serials.ws and search for "Windows 98" and try those product keys.

Where can i find the product key in my laptop

However, if you've lost your product key, all hope is not lost - your Windows 7 key is stored in the registry but is encrypted and not readable, making finding it difficult. Luckily there are several free programs that can help.
Manually locating the Windows 7 product key from the registry is nearly impossible due to the fact that it's encrypted.
Note: The manual techniques used to locate the product key for operating systems like Windows 95 and Windows 98 will not work in Windows 7. Those manual procedures will only locate the product ID number, not the actual product key used for installation. Lucky for us, several free programs exist to help find product keys.
Any product key finder that locates Windows 7 product keys will locate the product keys for any version of Windows 7: Ultimate, Enterprise, Professional, Home Premium, Home Basic, and Starter. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/tp/topkeyfinder.htm

Free product key

Not sure if you still have the original packaging, but in some cases the product key is also available on the install manual that came with the product. If you do not have the original packaging you can perform the following and retrieve the product key. If you can start your guest operating system and that system is Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium, follow these steps to find your product key in the guest operating system:
  1. Start Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
  2. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MIcrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProductKey
  3. Write down the value of the key.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.
If you are not able to perform the following you can always reach out to Microsoft for further assistance. I hope that you have found this information to be useful, and if I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. Thank you for using fixya!

Lost product key for xp home

The only thing you can really do is purchase a new Product key from Microsoft. I am sure that if you search the internet you could find a product key, but given that it is illegal I wouldn't suggest it.

Your product key is located on the casing of your product. It is on the portion where the DVD Disc is stored in. If you have lost your key, you must call Microsoft to replace it. We are not able to replace lost keys on this site.

If your talking about Windows 98 Product Key which is asked for when installing Windows 98. Well because Windows 98 is not supported anymore by Microsoft. They have given out a Generic Product Key that is said to work on any Windows 98 CD. The generic key is: VP9VV-VJW7Q-MHY6W-JK47R-M2KGJ.

Trouble shooting

ya its asking the windows 98 cd key
try this
Follow the steps below to locate your Windows 98 product key code from the Windows 98 registry.
Difficulty: Easy Time Required: Less than 10 minutes Here's How:
  1. Click on Start and then Run.
  2. In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program.
Note: Do not make any changes to any entry anywhere in Registry Editor to avoid causing serious system issues. These steps only direct you to view entries, not to make changes.
  3. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under My Computer and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder.
  4. In the resulting folders, locate and click on the (+) sign next to Software to expand this folder.
  5. In the resulting folders, locate and click on the (+) sign next to Microsoft to expand this folder.
  6. In the resulting folders, locate and click on the (+) sign next to Windows to expand this folder.
  7. In the resulting folders, locate and click on the Current Version folder.
  8. In the results that appear in the window on the right, locate the ProductID.
  9. The numbers and letters on this line represent the Windows 98 product key. The product key should be formatted like xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx - five sets of five letters and numbers.
  10. Write this product key down exactly as it is found here for use when reinstalling Windows 98.
Note: If even one character is written down incorrectly, the installation of Windows 98 that you attempt with this product key will fail. Be sure to transcribe the key exactly.
  11. Close Registry Editor without making any changes.
Tips:
  1. If your system was purchased with Microsoft Windows pre-installed, and you have not reinstalled it or upgraded it yourself, the product key found by the steps on this page will only find the generic product key that your computer manufacturer used to install the operating system. This product key will not work when attempting to reinstall Windows. In this case, you must use the unique product key that is on the sticker attached to your computer case.
  2. rate me solved if its helps thx
