Question about Sebo Automatic X1 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Spare wire? My SEBO X4 flex had to have the fex shortened because the cable sheathing had come out of the internal gripper and there was a couple of inches of two strand wire hanging out the cable entry point before the insulation sheathing started. No problem doing this but on the live switch terminal there was a piggy back spade connector. The second wire from this went down inside the handle and just ended with a bare terminal hanging in space. It hadn't come off anything, there wasn't anything it could connect to. I've just removed it. The machine works fine. Should I worry about this?

Thanks Chris. Unfortunately I seem to have just deleted the photo I was sending back of the 'before' version of my machine. It clearly showed a black wire left hanging in space with a bare terminal on it inside the bottom of the handle (this could be the black wire in your photo). There was nothing anywhere near to terminate it to.
There wasn't a ground wire on the machine, the flex is twin core.
As mentioned, the machine works fine with it removed. It clearly wasn't right as it was.
It is a near new machine incidentally - the first time it has been opened up.
I think I'll stop worrying about it.
    Thanks again.

Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

I took a picture of the Sebo X4 wiring in the handle of the machine for you. This is a brand new machine taken out of the box, this is how the wiring should look. You'll see that there are 5 total wires here. You'll see the positive and negative from the cord at the top, and the wires that come up from the bottom of the handle are below plug. There is a blue, white, and black wire coming up from the bottom of the handle.

The blue and white should be on spade connector below the white cord lead, and on the right hand side the single black wire from the handle should be attached beneath the black cord lead.

If the machine is still working, then it must have been the Blue or ground wire that you removed, correrct? I'm not sure if this will hurt the machine, but the wire is definitely there for a reason, and if you still have it you may want to reconnect it.

If you'd like to contact Sebo directly and speak with a product specialist there, their phone number is;

How to remove retention clip on sebo x4 to repair electric cable

Check out Espares video on how to repair and replace cable on the SEBO X1. It is the same machine as the X4, only difference is a different motor and cosmetic differences. I rely on this video and a few of the others that this company have done on You Tube for SEBO repairs.

Power Cable wires exposed where it enters handle

Part of your question has been cut off by the FixYa system, but I guess you say the wires are exposed where the flex enters the handle. To dismantle the handle, first remove the handle from the machine and, of course, be sure the flex is not plugged in to the mains power.
Look on the back of the handle - you will see a small screw. Undo that screw and remove it, then you will be able to pull the plastic part of the handle out from the metal part. NOTE: it does not come very far out - just far enough so you can separate the two halves of the plastic part. When you've done that, it's only a matter of removing the damaged part of the flex (noting how the wires are routed inside the handle), stripping the remaining flex to match the bit you've removed, and wiring it in. Fit the two plastic halves together again (one hooks into the other at the top), push them down into the metal part and refit the screw. Job done!
If you need more help, just post a reply here and I'll get back to you soon. Good luck!

I want to release flex from sebo x4 vacuum cleaner to cut back...

On the underside of the handle, there's a small screw close to where the metal and plastic parts join. Undo this screw. This will allow you to pull the plastic part out of the metal part - not very far, but just far enough so that you can separate the plastic part into two halves lengthways. That gives you access to the switch, and you should find the rewiring job and reassembly straight forward from there on.
I hope this helps. If you need more, just post a reply and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I do value feedback, so please remember to rate this answer.

My sebo keeps cutting out while I use it the turns back on when I move the lead about. Its over 5 half years old?

Sounds like the flex is damaged. This happens most often either right near the plug or where the flex enters the handle. There may be no damage visible externally, but still the copper wire inside can be broken. You say that moving the flex about makes a difference, so you will know where the problem is. If the damage is indeed at one end, then you can simply cut the flex and re-wire it. If you need to have someone do it for you, get a firm quote as it may be cheaper to fit a complete new handle (there's no labour cost involved because the handle just slides in). I hope this helps!

My Sebo X4 does not power up, it worked fine the day before but now there's no power. What could be the problem?

Most likely is a break in the electric flex. This can be internal, and completely invisible from the outside. Alternatively, the cable may be visibly damaged so check it carefully. Internal damage usually occurs at the extremities of the flex, where it leaves the plug or where it enters the machine, it's hard to detect without suitable testing equipment, although simply moving the flex around (with power switched on) will sometimes locate the problem. Depending on your wish or ability to deal with this yourself, there are several solutions. Of course, if the fault is at the plug end, the old plug can be cut off and a new one fitted. If the fault is at the machine end, the handle can be re-wired but the usual solution is to fit a new handle (complete with flex). This is more expensive in material terms but works out cheaper than a re-wire when labour costs are added (there's no labour in fitting a new handle, but re-wiring a handle takes time). If this doesn't help, please post a further comment, indicating how confident you feel about taking the machine apart, and we'll consider other options. Good luck!

Replace power cable on Sebo X4 vacuum claenaer

From memory the plastic part slides up a little, enough for you to access the wiring. I'll try and have look at work tomorrow.

Warning though! you need to do this work with the handle laying flat, the screw hole upwards - it may be already too late as there is a nut that slides away and can be tricky to get back
