Tray seems to be out of alignment

Discs from time to time will bind as they are spinning. Device may play well for a time, but eventually disc will start to rub the lid on the right side. How can I re-align the tray if at all? Thanks!

I removed the Li ion battery pack from the base of the unit. It had swollen severely and was actually distorting the main unit itself.
I subsequently found out that this battery pack had been recalled four years ago for dangerous swelling and potential for explosion.
I stuck the battery pack in the garage and will recycle it.

This sounds like the timing for the drawer has beed knocked out of alignment...usually when someone pushes door in instead of pressing eject can take top off to remove the discs...the timing can be realigned( assuming there are no broken parts). My xbox 360 is not reading discs. it dosnt seem to even register that there is a disc in it

Hello! if the console behaves as if there is no disc present in the disc tray, then most likely the drive was not able to detect the media inserted due to the lens was mis aligned. Becaus of the spinning motion of the drive it creates vibration because of these moving parts. It is a risk tearing down the system and re-aligning the lens, you can call Microsoft Xbox Support for it to be fixed and its $159if it's out of warranty.

My panasonic sa-mt1 says that there is no dvd in the tray, it says no dvd?.

There a few common reasons why dvd players will not recognize the disk.

1. If the disc to really dirty or scratched the optical reader will not be able to read it.

2. The optical lens could be dirty and will need to be cleaned. If the laser can not see (so to speak) the disc and read the tracks it will not recognize the disc.

3. If the spindle motor does not spin the disc, the optical lens will not read the disc and not recognize it.

4. If there is a malfunction with the optical reader assembly (the laser malfunctions) it will not read the discs. The whole optical assembly is the entire optical lens and circuit board seen in the above picture along with a few other components not seen.

5. The disc tray could be out of alignment. This usually does not happen unless the device has been treated roughly or dropped.

In most cases, a simple cleaning of the discs and the optical lens will solve the problem. If the disc is not spinning, the spindle motor has malfunctioned and it will need to be replace which with parts and labor will cost you roughly between $70-90 dollars (most is labor) depending on the prices in your area that service technicians charge. The most expensive part to replace is the whole optical assembly, which depending on how much you paid for the device, it might be cheaper to buy a new player (average estimated cost of replacement between $ 200-280 most of which is the part unless you can find a great deal some where).

Check to see if your discs are scratched or dirty by holding them up to the light and tilting them back and forth. Try new disc in your machine to see if the problem still persists, if it does then try cleaning the optical lens. You can purchase cleaning discs to do this for you or you can do it manually. You can also purchase things that will help clean your discs as well. For a more detailed description of cleaning procedures, please review my profile where you will find my tips. Check to make sure the discs are spinning. You can remove the cover if you like or you can listen really close to hear if the discs are spinning up. If the discs start and stop the entire process without spinning up after you have cleaned the discs and lens, the problem could be that the spindle motor is about to go out. If the discs are not seated in the tray properly or the tray itself if out of alignment then it could cause the machine to not read the disc properly.

I hope this helps you solve or determine what the device malfunction is. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Sony cdp-c545 won't open

Without turning the unit upside down, look at the bottom of the player. You should see a small round hole toward the front of the unit, with a white plastic part inside with a slot. Take a screwdriver and turn this gear manually with the power off. You should be able to unload the discs by rotating this gear. Be careful not to tilt the unit, as the discs will fall out of the tray, and you'll have to open it to retrieve them.

Once you have the discs out, put in only one disc and see if the unit plays. If you get a disc error, you probably need to clean the lens on the laser. Open the unit, use a cotton swab that has been pre-wetted with glass cleaner to wipe the lens on the laser. Do this gently, don't press down hard on the lens. Use the other end of the swab to dry the lens. Try loading a disc with the top cover off and see if it spins. If it doesn't spin, try turning it by hand. If you can't turn it by hand, the gears have gotten out of alignment.

In this case, use your screwdriver again, noting which way the gear on the bottom of the unit spins when the drawer is going into the unit. Then turn the gear until it "pops" past one or two teeth, and then you should see the laser assembly rise up and meet the clamp assembly on the top of the tray. These are the most common problems with the 5 disc players that Sony made. Many times I could fix them in 30 seconds or less using this procedure.

Dvd do not loads

Our started doing the same thing about a week after the warranty ran out. It has to do with the alignment of the discs being loaded. here's a work-around that works for us:
Open the tray
Choose which disc you are going to watch and use the Change Disc button to push the selected disc to the back (ie, if you want to view Disc 1, discs 3 and 4 will be visible in the tray).
Look down the center holes of discs 3 and 4... manually move your tray left-or-right to align the holes with the tray.
Push the Direct Play button on the top right of the unit for your disc of choice (Disc 1 using the example above).

hope that helps... I've searched for a while and played around with the unit (with and without the cover on) trying to figure out a way to re-align the tray, but no luck.
