Whirpool Gold GC5SHEXNB00 Condensor fan won't run

My refrigerator is 2 years old. The fridge/freezer wasn't staying cold and the compressor was warm. Condensor fan (at least I think that is what it's called) won't turn on. I replaced the fan with part 833697, but it won't go on. A friend did some kind of test and he doesn't think there is any power going to the fan. Any suggestions as what to do next? I'm running a house fan behind the refrigerator to keep it going.

is it frozen up? do you have any air flow thru the air tunnel from the freeze to the fridge? Check your air flow with the door switch pushed in. also check to see if the damper door opens... 1) if it is iced up you have a defrost problem. most likely a defrost timer. Turn off or unplug untill all the ice has melted off the evaporator back of the freezer..plug back in and it will work fine untill the ice builds up again. if this work you do have a defrost problem.. if not let me know and we can go deeper...

The small cooling fan in the freezer compartment that sends chilled air to the food side is defective and needs replacement.  Sometimes that are only frozen stuck.

Should the fan operate all the time in my refrigerator

Most of the time it runs only when the compressor is running. In other words compressor and fans will run together when the fridge thermostat ask for cold and stops together when thermostat is satisfied. In newer fridges some time inside fan (evaporator fan) might PERIODICALLY run without compressor to circulate little cool air to fridge compartment from freezer compartment.

Sounds like the evap. fan motor is not turning. What is the freezer temp. have you measured it ? What about the fresh food section, (fridge compartment).

Anyway, try this. Hold the door switch in the closed position with the freezer door ajar and see/listen for the fan coming on. If you can't be sure, the best way to do this is to first turn the thermostat all the way to the "off" postion, and with the freezer door ajar and holding the door sw. closed (pushed in). turn the thermostat back on. (you may need to turn off then back on first if your arms aren't long enough) You should hear the fan motor start.

NOTE; you may hear the compressor overload "click" off if trying to start it right after shutting down, this is normal (under short cycles or manual restarts). You may also hear the condensor fan motor run (under the fridge by compressor) this too is normal. try to indentify the freezer fan (evaporater fan motor) running or not.

good luck.

If the defrost heating element, defrost timer or evaporater fan weren't working, you'd develop a block of ice on the evaporator. Is the compressor running? If it is, it might have bad valves from the frost buildup scenario. Liquid refrigerant could have gotten to the suction valves. The sealed system should have a five year warranty. Might be time to call a pro

Kenmore Elite Trio Refrigerator not cooling

No, it is not a failed condenser. You need to see if the compressor is running though. When it runs you shaould have a fan in the freezer running, a fan underneath the fridge running, and the compressor should be running. I would be willing to bet that either the compressor is bad, or the start relay on the compressor.

Whirlpool Side By SIde Refrigerator Freezer stopped cooling

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm: 1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won?t let air circulate. 2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air. 3- there is no refrigerant in the system. 4- no power to fridge or compressor. 5- the condenser coils have no air circulation check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn?t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust. if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it?s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won?t heat up, it?s the timer or the coil. the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge. if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked. if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes: 1. low refrigerant 2. no fan 3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals 4. the condensate drain tube is clogged if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s). no air, no fan. Replace if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional. defrost solutions: unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of.

Whirpool conquest refrigerator-about 8 years old-not cold enough

  • if it does not cool at all then i would suspect the start switch on the side of the compressor or the compressor itself.
  • if the previous repair included tapping into the freon line then it could be the freon leaked out.
  • if the thermostat was bad then the refrigerator fans would not be running,
  • and if the defrost timer was bad (stuck in defrost = not cooling) then the fans would not be running.
  • i don't know of any bad history with this particular model
  • double check the back wall of the freezer to make sure there is no buildup of frost, because this would be a defrost issue.
  • if it is getting a little cold but not cold enough then let me know the temps

Refrigerator and Freezer not cooling

Wayne, lower back panel, the fan in back (condensor) should be running with the compressor. If the compressor is running,( you should be able to hear it) and the condensor fan is not running. Then the condensor fan motor is your problem. Another sign of a failed condensor fan motor is that the divider between the freezer and refer is extremely warm to touch. If the compressor is not running, it could be the compressor relay and overload (PTC) might be shorted. They made a bunch of these, white in color that failed quite often. Check yours out, it will be mounted to the front of the compressor. Take it off and shake it. If it rattles, there's your problem...Catriver.
