i got a used i phone from a friend of mine but is locked he said that at power up just to hold the home buttom it should reset but it did not any sugestion

How to reset an iPhone

Hold the Power button (at top) and the home button at the same time for about 5 seconds.
The iphone will automatically turn off then back on.
An Apple logo will appear for a few minutes.
The iphone will be reseted.
