I have a toshiba protege 7100 series and it won't boot past the windows screen

Try hitting F8 during startup and choose last known good configuration.
Or you could try starting in safe mode and doing a system restore.
Have you made any changes to the system prior to this problem, as sometimes installing programs/drivers can cause similar issues. If so you will need to remove or configure the program causing the conflict. You can do this in safe mode.

I have an 2008 HP laptop that boots but does not have any output to the screen.Since I'm not able to check the bios by interupting the boot cycle,I thought perhaps I could perform a hardware reset on...

With the HP series of laptops, I doubt that resetting the bios chip would have any effect and you would not be able to see what is happening, what you describe ( a bios flash) is not the easiest solution.

Try it on an external monitor, if the problem persists, then you have the usual failed Nvidia graphics chip problem, all too common with HP laptops as they overheat and need to be "reballed"

If you can get an external picture, issue is likely to be with the inverter, the screen, or maybe just a loose cable or in extreme circumstances, a damaged vga cable

Laptop wont connect to wireless network but desktop is fine.

Perhaps, it just needed a new IP address. Simply rebooting the computer and resetting the IP Address of the computer took care of the issue.

That sounds like symptoms of Manufacturer & Windows drivers conflicting. Try uninstall the Manufacturer Drivers and let the windows ones do the work, and see how that goes down.

Forgot password to hp laptop how do i reset it.

I don't know what OS your HP laptop is installed with.

If it is Windows 8, Windows Password Hint, PIN code, Microsoft account can be used to login HP laptop. After logon successfully, change, recover or reset Windows 8 password is available.

If it is Windows 7, Password hint or another administrator account may help you. But if you don't have all of these, try password reset disk. Create it before Windows 8 locked or with Windows 8 Password Recovery tool is OK.
Besides these, Chntpw USB disk also works for Windows 7/Vista etc.
