You will need a WE12X82P belt, or just a WE12x82 (the P stands for packaged)

  • Disconnect power
  • Remove screws under the front edge of the dryer top
  • Swing top up and remove one screw from each side panel holding the dryer front, near the top of the dryer.
  • Pull dryer front forward a bit and lift off bottom pegs. Swing to the side. (no need to disconnect wires if you don't want to)
  • Put belt around drum, lifting drum a bit to get belt past drum support slides on the bottom side.
  • Check to make sure drum slides are not worn through, especially the one on the left side.
  • The grooved side of the belt touches the drum
  • Belt runs from drum directly to motor pulley on the left side, then around belt tensioning wheel and back to the drum.
  • Turn the drum a revolution or two (counter clockwise) before reassembly.

Start button starts dryer and dryer stops when button is released.

Ge dryers have a belt sensing switch inside that won't let the dryer run (just as you describe) when the belt breaks or comes off. My guess is you broke a belt. With door open---hold in button door switch and hit the start switch to get it too run a few seconds. Watch the drum and see if it turns. My guess it will not. Belt is a long skinny band that goes all around the drum outer area and then down around the motor.

Dryer not running after start turned

do you mean that if you hold in the start button it will run but when you let it go it stops,if so you have a bad belt pulley switch.it's a safety so if the belt breaks the dryer won't run,all it is is a cherry switch,a black switch with a white button sticking out of it,the belt pulley hits it and pushes the button in but the switch fails internally or the belt is broke,if the belt isn't broke replace the belt pulley switch.

Dryer only runs while holding start button in

We have a Maytag Epic dryer with the same problem (Model MED9800TQ0). Pulled out the control board yesterday and saw that the weld had been blown right at the motor relay (burnt marks surrounding the area on the flip side of the board where the relay attaches). Do you suggest we replace the motor relay or just try to re-soder that part on the board? Also - should we be concerned as to how this happened (that it was something elsewhere that caused it to blow)?

The dryer makes an electrical buzzing sound but the drum doesn't spin. I can spin the drum manually, which I never could before the problem started. Model GE DBVH512EFOWW

michael00256 (that's a great name by the way). several things could be going on. If you can gain access inside the cabinet, you'll need to do that.

My dryer's belt broke and I cant find the part

WE12X1001, WE12X1000, WE12M29 are the three different belts used on GE Dryers and if you go to
https://www.geapplianceparts.com/GEApplianceParts/Dispatcher and do a search on these parts you will be able to purchase them directly from GE. You will need to look at your belt and pull the number off if your belt in order to assure you get the right one. If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.
