Why is my Samsung series 6 UHD TV 50" 4K (UE50HU6900) which is connected to SKY+ HD box by a HDMI cable, giving a very poor picture quality. How can it be made better?

Is the sky box connected directly to the TV with a HDMI cable? If so then the HDMI cable could be poor quality or faulty!

A common misconception among game console owners is such connectors will allow RGB quality, while they are only CVBS and S-Videocompliant. THESE CAN BE USED FOR NON HD DEVICES SUCH AS YOUR DVD-VCR, AND SKYTOP BOX YOUR TV WILL HAVE AT LEAST 1 OF THE YELLOW WHITE RED COMPOSITE CONNECTION

What is the code for sky?

Hello,

You can either use the "Service" button and follow the onscreen guide for "program your remote"

Or

On your Sky Remote, away from your TV and Sky box (not pointing at either):

Press TV

Press SELECT then the RED button together for a couple of seconds.

You will see the light flash twice at the end of the remote

Press 0 6 4 6 SELECT

Your Remote should now work the TV Volume, Channels etc.

The HELP button switches the TV Source.

I would advise connecting your sky box to the TV with a scart cable or better still a HDMI cable & not the RF cable. The reasons for this sre
1.. You should get a much better quality of picture from Sky
2.. You will not need to tune in the TV just go to the AV or HDMI input source to obtain the sky channels.

Samsung le40a lcd - picture quality

Hi - I have some suggestions. The following factors effect picture quality:
1. Source (because LCD TVs have much higher picture quality than traditional CRT "Tube" TVs, the worse your source material, the worse it looks on a LCD TV).
DVD and Sky/Digital TV should look excellent on this TV when connected with a good quality Scart lead (nothing too expensive, but a Oxygen Free Copper Gold lead may help) directly into one of the TV's Scart inputs (avoid using "switching" boxes for multiple equipment).
Also, bear in mind that this is a HUGE screen (40 inches I think) and will REALLY show up bad source material.
The best advice I can give is, if you have HD-ready equipment use HDMI connections for everything (ideally with an HD-uplscaling DVD player which will "improve" the quality of standard DVDs on the TV - I recommend models by Philips) and check that you are in "Movie" or "Cinema" mode on the TV.
Make sure that all of your equipment, like your Sky digibox, is set to 16:9 mode (not 4:3) aswell to preserve the true widescreen aspect ratio.
Hope that helps!

If you are not connected to HD, pixelation can easily occur, especially if you are using an analogue connection. Here is a list, from best to worst, of how you should connect the video on your system.

1) BEST - HDI cable between the TV HDMI in and the sky box HDMI out. This is a full bandwidth digital audio and video connection.

2) BETTER - S-Video between your TV and sky box (with L & R audio)

3) GOOD - Component Video with L & R audio

4) STANDARD - single video cable (yellow) along with L & R audio

5) standard coax

These are listed, as stated, from best to worst quality. If you are not using a digital connection (HDMI), then pixelation can be expected.

Setting up

on the back of your sky box there are two scart ports. one says tv and the other video.

from the sky box connect a scart from the tv port to the back of your tv.

from the DVD connect a scart from that to the video scart port on the back of your sky box.

now when you turn your DVD player on it will override the sky and come through on your telly without having to change the scarts around.

what i would like you to do now. is get an RF lead. ( aerial lead) plug this into the RF out socket on the back of your sky box either one will do ie RF out 1 or 2 makes no difference.
Then plug the other end into the back of your Tv if you have an aerial cable coming into your home then simply plug this straight into the aerial port on the back of your sky box.

The last thing your going to have to do now is tune your telly in. if you click on channel 6 on your telly then go to menu, setup, and manual tune.. A good tip for you put your sky on the TV GUIDE screen this will make life easier for yourself as you will know its the sky channel.
once you find it STORE.

now when you turn your dvd player on if you select channel 6 you will now have the sky channel so you can record whatever you like

Hope this sorts you out.
cheers
