Are you getting any power at all to the scanner? Or is it just not responding to the scan command?

If it is the former, then check the wall socket if its viable or not. Next check the power cable and try a different cable if available. If these two are OK, then it could be an issue with the scanner's power board, in which case you will have to get it either serviced, or purchase a new scanner (whichever works out cheaper for you..)

If it is the latter case, uninstall the scanner software and driver and do a 'clean boot' as outlined below. First download the latest version of the scanner software for your OS from http://hp.com

1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
2. Open the Add / Remove Programs window.
3. Locate the listing for the software and remove it. When prompted to remove the scanner drivers files, click Yes.

The following is the procedure for a 'clean boot'. I am assuming that you have XP.

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart

After restarting, reinstall the downloaded software. Next, do the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. Replace checkmarks in the items that you previously removed them from.
3. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
4. Click OK
5. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

To Boot Clean in Windows Vista:
Accessing the System Configuration Utility
1. Click Start and select ControlPanel
2. Click System and Maintenance
3. Click Administrative Tools
4. Double Click System Configuration

Configure Selective Startup options
1. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
2. Uncheck Load Startup Items
3. Select the Services tab
4. Check Hide all Microsoftservices
5. Click Disable all
6. Click on OK
7. Click Restart.

Install the downloaded device driver/software.After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing thefollowing:
1. Click Start and select ControlPanel
2. Click System and Maintenance
3. Click Administrative Tools
4. Double click System Configuration
5. On the General tab,choose Normal Startup
6. Click Ok
7. Click Yes, whenasked to restart your computer

Make sure that the driver for your printer has been installed. There is a CD that comes with this scanner. Make sure to use that and install all necessary software.

Hi: I have a 'all in one' HP C6280, and a HP scanjet 4010. They don't want to co-operate. Now I find that I really need to use the G4010. (I had just stopped using it). At first I thought I should...


Go to the Device manager and delete ( not only uninstall ) driver for G4010 .
Now unplug unit . Go to Controm Pannel \ programs and delete the software . You can also and preferably use a cleaning tool such as Revo Uninstaller .
Reboot but do not connect scanner yet . Reinstall software driver .
Reboot and wait for OS to be settled .
Connect your scanner and wait for confirmation of successfull operation It should work now , presuming you haven't changed your OS since before .

How can I get a driver for hp scanjet G4010 for vindows 7


Try these, i find hp forum:
"
1st of all I installed Windows 7 and allowed Windows 7 to install the scanner drivers automatically before I attempted to install the HP software package.
- to do this, make sure the HP G4010 is powered on and the USB is connected to the PC
- Windows 7 will take over and install the drivers
- you can confirm installation by reviewing the "Imaging devices" section of Device Manager and you will see 'HP Scanjet G4010' and driver version 9.0.0.0 from Hewlett-Packard 4/10/2007, the device status should say 'The device is working properly.'
Very basic scanning should be possible even before the complete HP software package is loaded.
Next, retrieve the latest software from HP as below:
.... setup_full_G4000.exe (198,016 kb) ....
Save to your drive, then Right click, choose properties, click tab for 'Compatibility'

Click 'Change settings for all users'
Place checkmark in box next to 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and then from drop-down choose, Windows Vista (Service Pack 2), click 'Apply', then OK, OK to close all windows.

Now start the installation by "Double clicking" to run install, be patient, it may take a while to begin!
Also, watch the task bar as UAC message box mentioned above may appear behind the active window!
At the UAC message click 'Yes'

Follow on-screen instructions as usual. I used the default install except as noted below . . .
(Personally, I choose the advanced installation so I could uncheck the "HP Photosmart Essential 1.12" since I prefer to use alternate software for this purpose. It should not matter whether you choose to install or not.)
Once installed, open "HP Solution Center"; go to "Help" then click "Check for updates"

Mine prompted for "Latest Version of HP Update, Version 5.2" ... This update has opt-in/out feature for individual updates, Win 7 compatibility, and minor bug fixes.

Click next to download and install. When you get the 'Installation succeeded message, click Finish"

HP F380 not working


Do the following:
  1. Unplug the scanner's USB
  2. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties
  3. In the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager
  4. Under Camera's and Scanners remove any HP scanner items that exist already (right-click and delete)
  5. Restart the computer
  6. Install the latest drivers for the scanner from the HP site (don't go anywhere else)
  7. Plug in the scanner
If this does not work, try plugging the scanner into a different USB port and see if it gets detected.
