Re: neon green line down right side of screen
I think you are developing a problem on the line output stage of the television. The first thing to do is LIGHTLY tap the side of the tv and see if this cures the problem. If you tap it say ten times and it comes and goes then the problem is dry solder joints. Otherwise I would suspect a faulty component on the line output stage probably the transistor or the transformer. If you can check these faults for yourself otherwise find a competant technician. Hope this helps.

My thought is that it is an Intergrated Circuit (IC). But it has been brought to my attention that it may be as simple as adding a "ground adapter" to the plug of the TV. If after you try changing out the ground adapter and it doesn't work, try "power cycling" your TV. (unpluging it... Waiting 30 seconds, then plug it back in.) If that fails, contact Hitachi so they can recommend an authorized service center in your area. Hope this helps. Good luck, KMarshall!
I had one red line at the beginning, then another one the same red, then couple months and green one. I fixed it by replacing one of the board inside (140$) and the problem is gone. The same model PDP4216M. Any questions e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
If the set is still in warranty, call for warranty service. If not and you feel comfortable working on the set, carefully open up the back and reseat all of hte cables and connectors. This can be caused by marginal connections inside the set.
This is an old post but maybe it will help others. You will have to take the back off of the TV. On the bottom you will see ribbon cables coming from the screen and connecting to 3 PC boards. Take the screws out that holds the cable down. Underneath you will see 4 resistors marked 100. All you have to do is re-solder the resistors and your vertical line will be gone. You need to be good at soldering or you could damage the ribbon. The only ones that you have to re-solder is the ones in line with the lines on the screen.
