Because there is a door switch that would turn your dryer off because of safety issue.

if you do not open the door, the timer will continue to run and it will shut down automatically.

you can not by pass the safety switch. you can not look at the drum if it is turning, it is unsafe to open the door while the drum is turning.

    tnx 4 using fixya,

please rate my solution. was it fix?

Whirlpool dryer doesnt heat, time and shut off when you open the door

if you have it on time dry and it doesn't count down the timer is bad but it should stop when you open the door unless you have a broken door switch too, just open the door and push in on the switch with your finger,it should make a clicking sound,if not the door switch is also broke,if you have the timer on auto or more or less then it won't move without heat.on auto the heat comes on when the dryer reaches temp. the heat shuts off and the timer will advance a little, then the heat starts again and the timer stops,it will do this until the clothes are dry by using a sensor instead of time.

The dryer is not heating up and the dial stops at the cool down so the dryer will not shut off by it self. Its a kenmore 70 series dryer.

you need to send the model number, open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes into the dryer and you'll see the tag with the model number.it will start with 110. or 417.because you have no heat that's why the timer won't advance, when the heat shuts down then the timer advances when the heat comes back on the timer stops moving or advancing,no heat the timer won't move.send the model number

While drying clothes yesterday the dryer stopped halfway through. There was only about 10 or so shirts. When I noticed it had stopped I opened the door and reshut it, but the dryer wouldn't work anymore....

you may have a defective timer, or worse a defective motor. the door switch may also be defective, you require a basic knowledge of motors switches and timers, and require a volt/ ohm meter to diagnose properly

Dryer stopped working, sounds like timer still running

I suspect it is the thermal fuse. Seen here. You will need to determine what caused it to blow. on these machines the blower wheel is notorious for getting loose and causing the element to over heat. This makes the heating element shut down faster and takes a long time to dry the clothes. 7fc125e.jpg

The timer doesn't work. The dryer just runs until

is the heat working?when the dryer heats up and then the heat will shut off then the timer advances, when the heat turns back on the timer stops, heat shuts off the timer will move again,if the heat is working you could have a bad timer

Dryer switch

yeah but its unsafe specially with kids! it could stay running if the door was open and wont stop unless you turn the knob or unplug it. thats if it was bypassed.

My Kenmore drier won't stop now! Perhaps timer isn't working?

Hi there. this is a timer issue. it counts down but, the actual shut off dial embedded in the timer mechanism is damaged for some reason. replacing the timer assembly will correct this issue. there are two parts to a timer. One, it times and last, it initiates the shutoff. the second action is not working properly. to be sure, check the relay before you purchase the new timer.

I have also provided you with a complete manual set that you can access and print out if you would like.

Timer runs continuously - Does not stop at all

There should be a timer motor on the timer. That is most likely burnt out and will cause the timer to not shut down. Just replace the timer and that will solve the problem

Roper dryer won't shut off

The timer motor isn't moving the timer. You'll need to replace the timer. Turning the timer **** to off should stop the machine.
Exception: If the shutting the door automatically starts the motor, then the start switch/relay is probably shorted.
