How to Recover Passwords Using Ophcrack LiveCD

1. Download Ophcrack LiveCD
2. Burn to a CD
3.Boot from Ophcrack LiveCD
4. Ophcrack will attempt to recover the passwords for all of the user accounts that it can find on your computer. This password cracking process is completely automated. The important things to look for here are the accounts listed in the User column and the passwords listed in the NT Pwd column. If the user account you're looking for isn't listed, Ophcrack didn't find that user on your computer. If the NT Pwd field is blank for a particular user, the password has not been recovered yet.
As you can see in the example above, the passwords for the Administrator and Guest accounts are listed as empty. If you were cracking a password for a user that Ophcrack shows as empty, you now know that you can log on to the account without a password at all, assuming that the user account is enabled.
Look toward the bottom of the user list - see the Tim user account? In under one minute, Ophcrack recovered the password to this account - applesauce. You can ignore any other accounts you're not interested in recovering the passwords for.
After Ophcrack recovers your password, write it down, remove the Ophcrack LiveCD disc from your optical drive and restart your computer. You don't need to exit the Ophcrack software - it won't harm your computer to power it off or restart it while it's running.
In the next step, you'll finally get to log on to Windows with your new password!
Note: If you do not remove the Ophcrack LiveCD disc before you restart, your computer will likely boot from the Ophcrack disc instead of your hard drive.
. ow that your password has been recovered using Ophcrack LiveCD, simply enter your password when prompted after booting your computer normally.
To avoid needing to hack your own password again someday, I recommend creating a password reset disk. As long as you can keep the disk safe and also avoid losing it, you'll be protected from any future forgetfulness when it comes to your Windows password:

I have vista basic & need to add a password but dont know how

To put a log in password on your Vista account you have to go Start, Control Panel and then User Accounts. Click on Create a password for your account link in Make changes to your user account area. Enter the password you would like for your account and confirm it by entering the same password again. You can close User Accounts and Control Panel. Upon restart you will have to enter this password every time you log in so make sure you don't forget it.

Bought a used pc, do not have password for windows log-on. cannot get to bios, no boot up cd. what now?

Most XP machines have a built in administrator account that normally does not have a password.

You can try pressing F8 before Windows starts up to go into the XP bootup menu.

Choose Safe mode

Once into safe mode you should either see an 'Administrator' account listed, or just type in Administrator and do not type a password. If that works, go to Start-->Control Panel-->User Accounts. From there you can create a new user account for you to use with administrative privileges.

If that doesn't work, try downloading a password reset utility, such as the one at http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Hope this helps

Windows 2000 login problem

Have You Lost Your Windows Admin Password?

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but we’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
Windows Password Recovery Tool is one of the easiest password recovery tools to use. It allows you to reset a user account password, including the Administrator password. It is also a relatively small download.

I forget admin password in my

If this is Windows XP. Go into safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeatedly as the computer starts up. You will be given a choice on which "mode" you'd like to start Window in. Choose Safe mode. Then click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" . You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrator's account and will be able to reset the password. Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password
