HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code) problem

  • Anonymous Dec 21, 2008

I get the same error code with directx diagnostics. My sounds disappeared when I was connecting different speakers. I have realtek ac97 and when I use the start button in realtek soundmanager in connector sensing to sense the connections, I hear music and etc. voices that short time, so I don't think the card is fried or so.

I have the same problem and error code. The sound just stopped working properly. I do get static or garbled sound. I have changed the speakers, but it made no difference.

Tip

How to diagnose and fix sound problem for a desktop or a laptop

Check the Speaker Connections and Volume Control Settings
Step 1
Verify that the lack of sound is not due to faulty speaker connections. A simple way to test it is to substitute the speaker connection with headphones and see if you get any sound.

Step 2
Open the volume control window by clicking your "Start" button and then "All Programs." Click "Accessories," then "Entertainment," then "Volume Control." Alternatively, just click on the speaker icon that's in your System Tray.

Step 3
Check the volume and mute settings. If any of the mute check boxes have been checked, uncheck them. If this doesn't work, read on.

Perform a System Restore If Necessary
Step 1
If the sound has been audible from your computer's speakers and is suddenly lost, you may need to perform a System Restore. Click on the " Start" button and then "All Programs."

Step 2
Click on "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "System Restore."

Step 3
Complete the System Restore Wizard. If this doesn't work, read on.

Delete and Reinstall the Original Sound Drivers
Step 1
Deleting and reinstalling your sound driver may resolve the problem. Your sound driver may have been corrupted or may be missing. The result of this is that the restore utility menu won't be available. For Windows XP, follow these steps.

Step 2
Click on your "Start" button. Click on "Control Panel" and then "System." Next, click on "Hardware," then "Device Manager, then "Sound, Video and Game Controllers."

Step 3
Click on a sound device named in the Device Manager, and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. Click "OK" in the window that appears. Remove all the listed sound devices i this way EXCEPT Audio Codec and Legacy Audio Drivers.

Step 4
Restart your computer. Reinstall the deleted drivers using the Driver and Application Recovery CDs that came with your Windows XP system.

Step 5
Visit your computer manufacturer's official website. Check for any updated sound driver software for your sound card. If any, download them along with the installation instructions.

Today,I open a song to listen it but when i play the song with winamp the message come that bad sound speaker and error 88780078

That is a Bad DirectSound Driver Error. If the problem persists, make sure you have the correct sound card drivers installed. Also try downloading and installing the newest driver for your hardware.

If you click on Start, and then Run... type in dxdiag and press ok.
This will bring up DirectX where you can run some test with your soundcard.

Rear Speakers do not sound, other 2 do, and boofer.

There are several reasons why there is no sound coming from the rear speakers.
  • Improper connection of the signal cable is a possible reason why there is no sound coming from the rear speakers.

7949.jpgGreen connector is for the front left and right channel. Black connector is for the rear left and right channel. Orange connector is for the LFE (Low Frequency Effects) subwoofer and the center channel.

The connectors for the Logitech products are color coded as explained. The connectors on the sound card may not be color coded or a different color coding maybe used depending on the manufacturer of the sound card. Check the manual for the sound card to make sure the correct connector is connected from the Logitech speaker to the sound card.
  • After verifying that the connections are made correctly, the sound card needs to be checked to make sure it is setup correctly. There are many sound card manufacturers so we cannot possibly cover every make and model. We recommend contacting the manufacturer of the sound card to make sure the sound card is setup correctly for use with analog 5.1 speaker systems.
  • When a software DVD player is being used to watch a DVD, the audio output needs to be set to surround sound mode. Please refer to the user manual for the software DVD player to check the settings.
Many DVDs have more than 1 sound format available. Just as the sound card and the software DVD player, the DVD itself has to be set to the correct sound format.
  • Finally you can test to see if the speakers are working correctly by plugging the front channel cable coming from the sound card to the rear channel connector on the subwoofer. If sound comes out of the rear speakers, then there is no problem with the speakers. The problem could be with the software DVD player, or the audio setting on the DVD.
THIS article can be used to test if your speakers are indeed working.

Hope that helps!

Bad direct sound driver

First, go to control panel, and then device manager, to see if any problems exist. If not, still in control panel. go to check sound. Click on Manage Audio devices to see if all is ok. If you need to redownload your sound controller, like realtek, or it needs an upgrade, you can download that from your computer's support website. You also can check to see if you have configured your system to your speakers==are you using built-ins, or have you purchased others? Let me know if this does the trick for you.
