Convergence problems on AV-48WP30

I Can't adjust the red horizontally far enough to the left.
Convergenge went out suddenly. I can adjust the blue and red but can not get the red to go far enough left to line up with the rest the green does not move at all . I saw a post about this and somone said to change the IC804 controls. Replace them both with STK392-110 or stk-150 or stk-180 . Also, check for cold solder joints in the vicinity of these ICs. was also told to use a 45 watt sodering iron and soder wick (does that sound right or should I use a smaller or bigger iron. also are those stk chips name brand specific or does it not matter. Thanks for you help in this

Thats correct you need to replace both stk's (STK392-110 will work I would get them from www.bdent.com) You will also need to put heatsink compound on the back of these to keep them from going bad prematurely. Also all resistors on that board will need to be checked to make sure non of them opened when the stk's went bad. Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks

If it will not adjust up or down or left and right the convergence chips need to be replaced.

See attached photos of board that is in your set:

This can be a do it yourself repair and the parts do not cost a fortune.

When we try to adjust red cross, red adjustment will go side to side but not up and down. Red horizontal line is curved instead of a straight horizontal line. Blue can be adjusted up and down and don't...

Thats the classic sign of failed convergence ICs and resistors. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the parts and the Cd with instructions.

Convergence problem

The convergence IC's need to be replaced. STK392-110. There are two chips and they both should be replaced in tandem. After that a simple customer convergence is all it takes to get it back to normal.

Search around there's better descriptions about the solution to this problem at fixya than what I just typed. But basically you replace those two IC's and then check all the resisters and you're good to go.

Convergance problem

Your convergence IC's are bad and maybe a few of the supply resistors. Not an expensive repair but definantly something you would want a technician to do for you. Hope this helps.
