I have the same problem as Scott. I am directed to lower the cover. My problem began after installing a new black printer cartridge.

I have changed back to my old cartridge, shutdown the printer/PC/USB cable in various sequences but the printer is still telling me to close the cover.

I have not found a switch or misalignment with the closing mechanism

same issue here... I replaced my color cartridge. My cartridges remain in the middle of the printer, too. I contacted the online chat for Lexmarks customer support. She had me clean the contacts & unplug the printer and when it didn't work she said I needed a new printer because it is a hardware failure and of course it's out of warranty.

I have had this problem before and now have it again. I came online last time and found the answer and fixed it, but now forgot how to take apart the printer. There is a small component in the back of the printer that comes off when opened to replace the ink. You have to take the top completely off the computer, get the component out and put it back where it goes. Does anyone know how to take the top of the printer off? Not just the lid, but the entire top.

May be the cartridge not fitted properly.

Also try to unplug the printer during PC on. and then replug it.

Try to power off printer, restart PC and disconnect USB, then connect after restart PC.

Let me know if you need further help.

How to install the ink caridges in the printer for black, color and photo ink cartridges?

Perhaps the Lexmark P3150 User's Guide will be able to help you. Click on the link to download: Scroll to Maintenance, Page 38, for instructions on how to replace/install the cartridges.
Sometimes the ink cartridge carrier won't position automatically to the middle even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Just unplug the printer from the power source. With the cover open, hold the solid white strip and gently slide the carrier to the middle of the printer. Load the cartridges. Close the cover. Plug the printer back to power source. Thank you for choosing Lexmark.

When u try to print I get message saying close lid but it is closed. I have turned off and on at plug , and taken out leads and reconnected but I am still getting same message..

there is a small magetic switch where the front of the cover touches. or at the cover hunger, try to put you hands on the cover and press down a little, not too hard see if that helps. if not, then the printer need a service call.

P3150 printer runs but doesn't print

Are you saying that the printer prints in B&W but not in color, or only that it will print a test page with B&W? It might be that the color ink cartridge is dry.

Lexmark X125 not printing at all.

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Do you want to do a copy of a document directly from the scanner? OR copy a document to your pc?

If you want to do a copy - print it out directy, just press the copy button on the printer / scanner, this is covered in detail in the user manual.

IF you want to copy the document to your pc you need to press the scan button or open a program on your pc, for example microsoft paint - and get from scanner or camera.

I have a lexmark x4550. It keeps saying "Cover OPen" and its closed

Error 30 Top Cover Open or Print Cartridge Missing Make sure the spring-mounted pin on the print head shroud is installed properly and that it is detected by the ramp on the print cartridge as the cover closes. The pin should enter the tower on the HVPS and depress the cover switch.

Different printer, similar issue. May help.

I am guessing your new PC has Windows Vista.

Although Lexmark doesn't have Vista drivers available for that model, people have had success using Windows 2000 drivers with many older Lexmark printers.

It may work, or it may not. The only other option is to wait for Lexmark to release the Vista driver. They are always adding Vista drivers for the older models.

You can download the Windows 2000 driver here:

Printer cover open error message

I had that problem too.

Unplug the printer.
Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer.
Then wait for the printer to power on while still holding the cover open.
Then close the cover.
The buttons should work and th error message should be gone.

It worked for me.
