Hi, I have a Dayton 3ug73 heater. The heater will not shut down after the initial heat requirement is met. I have the thermostat set on low but it continues to heat. I shut the power off to it to keep...

It sounds to me like your thermostat may be bad. I would check power incoming to t-stat then turn temp. setting up and down to see if it is switching on and off. If not then replace. If it does then I would check all wiring to gas valve and if power is shutting off to valve but burner continues then replace gas valve. Thank you.

Did someone possibly turn the control knob from ON position to the Pilot Position. If that's the case, the burner won't come on.

Another thing that might cause your problem is low gas pressure. If you have LP Gas, the regulator on the gas tank may be frozen or the tank may be almost empty.. This happens frequently when temperatures remain well below freezing. To test this theory, soak a bath towel in hot water, ring it out and quickly place it around the LP tank's regulator. This will thaw the regulator and allow gas to flow smoothly to your heater. Remove the wet towel from the regulator once it has thawed.

If the freezing continues to occur, wrap insulation around and inside the bonnet of the tank. You may also want to contact your propane provider about this. As they may need to add some ethanol to your tank.

Hello,Good job with description.Something is keeping the condenser off(saftey).Do you have an emergency heat setting on the therm. It will run electric heat strips only until service can check it out.Very rare that the disconnect switch (black box) is it.Need electrical meter to prove it out.

Furnace blower motor won,t start need to know how to test with multimeter both the capacitor and the motor .

Inside the unit is a conveyor belt that hooks directly to the drum fan.
If the conveyor belt is not broken. Then you need to see if the rats that usually run on it are still a live or have left.

If you have no rats on the conveyor belt, than this is most likely your problem.

Low does not work, medium and high do

You probably cant fix it, this sounds like a multispeed blower with hi/medium/lo settings. You
can either replace the motor or connect one of the
working speeds to low/med or low/hi. or bump med to low and high to medium.

If the fan speed is not set correctly and running on low or medium for heat then the high limit could be tripping fan should be running in high speed for heat.

We have a round thermostat made by Honeywell. I

Hi,
The thermostat that you have is position sensitive. By that I mean that you need to have it in the right position for it to work correctly.
When you have the ring off of the thermostat loosen the two little screws and pull the thermostat away from the subbase. On the subbase you will see a line that needs to be level. If it is not level then the mercury bulb will not be in the right position to start and stop the furnace. Level the subbase and reassemble the thermostat and your furnace should start to work properly. If not then the thermostat is probbaly bad.
When they go bad it is often becasue ot the little arm that you refeered too. That is a small heater than actually fakes the thermosat into thionking that it is hotter in the room then it really is. This makes the furnaces shut down a bit early to combat overshoot. Adjusting that will determine how much time before the furnace hits the shutdown temperature that it will actually shutdown... got that?? In others ward it is probably a good idea not tp mess with that unless you know what you are doing. However the heater can burn out and create problems.

So, check that the thermostat is level and if not get a new t-stat...

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

If the unit has a wall thermostat, remove one of the wires from the thermostat. If the unit stops it indicates a bad thermostat. If it continues to heat, remove one of the wires coming from the thermostat going to the gas valve inside the heater. If it continues to heat you have a bad gas valve. If the heater shuts off, you have a bad thermostat wire (short).
