Air conditioner frezing up.clean filter and air conditioner but still ferzing up

If its doing it over night or in several hours, you need to check the thermostat. Turn it all the way to the warmest setting and listen for the compressor to shut off. If the compressor keeps running at the warmest position your thermostat is shorted. If you do hear your compressor shut off , and the thermostat is working, you are probably low on refrigerant.

Ah.

A simple Capacitor based speed control. How many places do you have to put wires on your switch? You may have mis-wired the switch, or you have the wrong switch.

How it all works is... When you turn the fan to High, or position 1 on the switch (there's L 1 2 and 3) the power goes from 1, to the capacitor, but does not go through the capacitor, but instead goes through the second (probably gray) wire directly to the reversing switch in the switch housing. When you switch to medium (or 2) both 2 and 3 positions on the switch are supposed to be sending power through both capacitors inside of the black box. Basically, you have two capacitors, when you go to medium, both are wired in parallel to each other, but on low, only one is in the circuit. Basically, the switch you have, or have mis-wired, is putting only one capacitor in the circuit at the time on medium and low positions.

Also, do not worry, so long as you only mess with these 4 wires, you cannot blow anything up, However! When you disconnect power from the fan, BE SURE that the fan is "On" when you turn the power off to ensure the capacitor discharges as you can get a very very nasty shock from the bare wires.

Hi, I have a Kenmore dryer (110.86873100) - the dryer has a 'fabric care knob with three settings - low, medium & high. The dryer does not heat on the 'high' setting at all, when I use the 'medium' or...

First off.. befor we talk about changing parts you need to verify that your circuit breakers are set properly. Manually push the dryer CB to the off position... and PUSH to off with conviction then turn it back on again. Test your high heat setting once again. If it works you had one of 2 CB's tripped. If it still shows the same symptoms then there are a couple of suspects.

1. The 155 deg thermostat

2. Possibly one of the two electrical legs of the heating element is open.

3. The timer & resistor has a problem.

All of the above can be isolated with a meter.

Low does not work, medium and high do

You probably cant fix it, this sounds like a multispeed blower with hi/medium/lo settings. You
can either replace the motor or connect one of the
working speeds to low/med or low/hi. or bump med to low and high to medium.

The Fridge froze all inside and the generator works constantly. The settings are set to medium. Nothing changed after turning the power off and then back on after a few seconds. I'm assuming the thermostat...

Check the vent door from the freezer to the refrigerator...when you turn the refrigerator off with the knob, does the vent door close. The bottom of your refrigerator works from the freezer blowing cold air through the vent to the bottom of the refrigerator. If it is turned all the way down, that should shut off the flow to the bottom. If any thing is broke there, it will continue to let cold air come down the vent, so check it out. The vent knob itself might not be working to turn the vent door down or off. There also, is a relay on the back of the refrigerator that controls the compressor on and off...it could be stuck in on position.

Thermostat wont shut off?

either the thermostatic spring the micro switch is mounted and is defective and is not moving to change micro switch position to cycle furnace or the contacts have welded themselves, try, with unit off tapping on thermostat and running it from low to hi a couple of times and see if this solves your porblem, you can remove outer ring and see the thermostatic coil and turn it and see if the mercury inside the micro switch makes and break the connection

Why does blower fan speed switch lock-out off and low speed positions on 1998 chevy silverado? It stopped working altogether then I replaced a 10 amp fuse and now only medium high and high will work but,...

Sounds like you may have a bad blower motor resistor.  When they go bad, they usually wipe out all speeds except high.  But could knock out just one or two of the speeds.  It should be located near the blower motor.

AC comes on in low to medium but shuts off on high.

It could possibly be the switch. Many automotive a/c blowers have a relay to engage the highest fan speed because the high current required will necessitate the use of heavy wiring to and from the blower motor and a heavy duty switch. Check for a high-speed relay and also there might be a circuit breaker in the blower system.

Hope this helps, rhais

If the heater fan on your car only works on "High" the problem is more than likely the resister assembly in your blower circuit or poor connections at the resister assembly. When the switch is in the "high" position the current does not flow through the resister assembly it flows directly to the coil of the blower relay. When the switch is in "low", "medium 1", or "medium 2" position the current flows through 1, 2, or all 3 of the resistors in the resistor assembly which results in the 3 different lower speeds. Check the resister assembly and replace if needed.
