For quite a few months I've been battling with my laptop - it doesn't recognise the sound card. I have done a Microsoft Fixit and recovered the driver with recovery manager many times but the problem keeps coming back. I have looked in device manager to see if I can sort the problem out there but my sound card/ speakers do not appear on this list. I've tried many things from various net forums and people having the same issue but there doesn't seem to be a permanent solution. I also receive a message after Windows has started saying that a device in one of the USB ports of the laptop isn't recongised, but the USB ports are clear. I think the sound issue started happening around the same time so think they might be related. If anyone can help, I'd be grateful - I've spent hours on this issue so far!
internal speakers or external?, you never said.
does the device manager show the sound chip? it must or the HP drivers are missing, (some take more lower level chips working first)
(yah complex and in the correct order installed)
with no red or yellow marks, ? DM colors>
be on the internet , right click, that sound chip and click update driver? curing said driver errors?
my guess, is there are other HP drivers missing or wrong.
Get the HP recovery kit for this LT? reinstalled unstated windows?
it could be virus infected and if it is, you will never get it right,
unless fresh loaded .
If this is XP it is a virus magnet, for now and eternity..
see this tag, see that name and number here, what do you have.
this is a service tag seen on all hp gear.
Go to http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and look up the laptop model and download the driver(s) for your sound card.

Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect
the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do
both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer
to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
