Is a Sansui DFTV275 an HD TV?

Is it possible that you typed the model # wrong? I can't find anything for that midel. If it has a hdmi port chances are it is 720p which would be hdtv. If not then it is most likely a standard 480p t.v.

No this TV is not HD ready. However it is digital (ATSC) ready meaning now that most of the analog brodcasts have stopped it will receive the digital broadcasts so you don't need a converter box. Since it can only display 480i resolution it is not HD ready. You would need a TV that can display 720p or better to be considered HD ready.

What do I need to get for viewing HDTV

The TV you have will only process an HD via the component video connections. Your cable box needs to have component outputs and you will need to buy a component video cable to connect from the cable box component video outputs to the TV's component video inputs (should be 2 sets, #1 for up to 720p and #2 for up to 1080i...
