For no reason whatsoever (didn't drop the camera or anything like that), I started getting 'memory card error" on my camera. Therefore, I purchased a new memory card. I cannot format the new card as it will not let me and I am getting the "memory card error" message again. Please help.

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here. If these don't help, and you do end up having to format your card, see the recovery software, along with the corrupted card procedures in this blog article.

Hello Try removing the battery and the memory card for 1 minute then return them back. Make sure the battery is inserted properly. If that didn't work, try turning it on without the memory card.
Did you get any error message when you try to turn on your camera?

As long as you didn't format the card your images should still be in there. Get a card reader (usually like $10) and connect this to your computer. With this you can just drag and drop the images to your desktop. Once you do that format the card on the camera you want to use it with and don't use it on any other devices. Hope this helps!

This worked for my camera, Nikon Coolpix L10!! I'm so happy I didn't go out and buy another camera!!!
Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install the new batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life. Error E30 means you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in the memory card and turn it on one last time.
