It would depend on how it was formatted. Did you remove it from the player and format it on a computer? The Xclef requires a FAT32 format / partition. I've upgraded the drive in mine on two occasions & found the easiest way to format the drive (there's no easy way though a windows OS) is to use this utility . . . "fat32format" . . .

Good Luck

Hello: I have a DMC Xclef and the on-disc software

My xclef 500 hard drive just died after about 45,000 hrs, 7yrs of use. I was just barely able to retrieve the syst files off the disc and transfered them to another hd. Had a 160gig hd, but had to format it to 100 gigs for the player to use it. I have copies of the file folders that I could post to a site, if it allowed me to. Too bad this site won't let me post files.

Can't upload my lumix hd videos to facebook. How do I convert the video?

You will need a conversion program that can read the format of your camera's files and write the format that Facebook wants. There are lots of free programs to do this sort of thing available for download from the internet. My first stop would be

You will have to put in the time required to learn about converting formats.

What video editing software for Panasonic DMC-TZ7

Till now, there is no such software which can edit mts file. What people usually do is to convert mts to other regular format first, then use Windows Movie Maker, Sony vegas or other edit tools to do some editing.
I always use Pavtube Video Converter( to help me convert mts files to other formats supported by my edit tool. For example, i tried to convert mts to wmv to import my Windows Movie Maker for editing.

WD 500 GB resized by Norton Ghost Restore to 120 GB and can not get it to original size.

You should partition your new drive first to say 160Gb (you lose a bit after formatting) for 1st partition and the remaining capacity for the 2nd partition. Because your Ghost image is 120Gb it can only restore to a partition of 120Gb, that is why it shows 120Gb on a 500Gb on a single partition.
You may be able to fix this problem without starting again by using Disk Manager (from Control Panel - Admoinistrative Tools) to create a 2nd partition on the hard drive and format this partition.

Hi does anyone know where i can get a replacement battery for this, thanks joyce.

I buy my replacements form China on eBay, the battery type is the very common 18650 lithium ion rechargeable. I've had less than great results using the unprotected battery so now I'm trying the protected version. Expect to spend 3-4 dollars for the battery and about 3 dollars for delivery which can take a few weeks. The battery connection is unique to the player so you'll have to solder it to the new battery. I love these players (xclef HD-500) and they're not available anymore. I have a couple of these and would love to find some for sale.

Time for physical format ???

Formatting such a large hard disk will take a long time, especially if you do a full format (not a quick format).
Just let the computer do its thing, don't turn it off.

use a program called Recova to try and get all possible data off the disc, or try a back up program. then using the formatting program off you buffalo disc do a physical format of the disc (it takes a long time). format your disk. (again it takes a long time) If you want to change from fat32 to nfts right click the disk icon ,select properties, format, chose to format in nfts, select quick format. if all ok re-enter your data. it worked for me.

My Xclef HD-500 will not boot up.

My OH finally solved this himself today! You need to update your firmware - just Google for Xclef HD500 Firmware and you'll find plenty of sites. He went to and downloaded firmware version 1.097 from the firmware section. This is an oldish version but I gather the latest ones can give some bother - and all I was wanting was my Xclef working again. You'll find full instructions there, too, but you'll need to download a couple of files - connect the XClef by the USB port and the power adapter (very importan!!!t)and then copy the two files into the "Firmware" folder of the Xclef. (If you go to My Computer you can see the connected Xclef there as another drive of your computer, and can look at all the folders and files, as you'll no doubt be aware). Do a USB safe removal in the system tray and unplug the USB cable, power on the Xclef - the firmware will update and it switches itself off automatically. Power on the Xclef again, press 'Menu' key for a couple of seconds, go to 'set-up', then 'system', then 'system initial' then 'OK' then switch off the Xclef and everything should be fine next time you use it. HOPE THIS HELPS!

Video format on Lumix DMC-LZ5

I dont believe it is possible unless you use a converter during the save function. I can not do it any other way. If you figure it out let me know. But I would say it is time to upgrade for me. The new HD mode in some of the newer cameras is much easier to deal with for me.
