I have a advent 8109 laptop, but I have no power via the mains, the battery works fine and the power supply unit is working fine, I think it is the internal power unit, is this a component that can be replaced or so what is the terminoligy for an internal power unit?, I have looked for spare parts, but cannot find anything, any help would be great

Hi. If the PC wont switch on, try this simple trick - remove the power cord from the pc. Press and hold the power button on the pc unit for 20 seconds (this will totally discharge the power supply). Try reconnecting the power lead and switching on. If this works - happy days, if not then it could be either a bad Power supply or even a dead Motherboard.

My CF-29 has battery issues

I'm just thinking that this might be caused by your power supply unit that came with the laptop although I'm not totally sure about this. When you are at home what I would recommend you do is remove the battery and just use the laptop whilst it's connected to the power supply as this preserves the life of the battery. Obviously charge the battery up and when it's full use the battery alone without the power supply unit. Carry out this test if you haven't done so already and connect the power supply but remove the battery and see if you face any problems. If it is the power supply then you may need to replace that. Good luck. Andrew

I have an Acer 5601AWLMi, when i boot up with the battery, the laptop is frozen and i can't do anything. Also the battery does not charge. Everything works fine when plugged into the mains. Any help or...

You may have a defective battery. It no longer delivers the required voltage to make your laptop work optimally. Some components will not work when those do not receive enough electricity. When you insert the plug to the mains you get the required power to make the components of your laptop work. You may try to remove your battery and plug to the mains. If this works without problems, then you must change your battery.

remove battery, use just the power supply and see if BOOT occurs. if no correction then F2 and get into BIOS and check startup via HD/CD/Floppy sequence order.
check the bottom of the unit to see if small fan ir cycling, is it clean of debris????
unknown how long you have owned unit-check harrive function --remove and do external in other unit.
