I have a advent 8109 laptop, but I have no power via the mains, the battery works fine and the power supply unit is working fine, I think it is the internal power unit, is this a component that can be replaced or so what is the terminoligy for an internal power unit?, I have looked for spare parts, but cannot find anything, any help would be great

My advent modena m202 will only work through mains power supply. I have a brand new batter which I was only able to charge in my old laptop. so m202 is not charging and wont work with fully charged

If the battery is OK then there may be an issue with the contacts that connect the battery to the motherboard or the regulator on the mother board has failed due to a previously faulty battery, in which a motherboard repair is required.

My advent 5611 laptop will not boot up, the lights come on for ten seconds then completly shuts down? any help would be great

This is either a battery issue or a power supply unit or a burnt board. Or it is hot and needs to cool down. I have let machines cool and they fire back up after a period of time. I hope that this is the case for your situation. I do not like power issues because they mean no computer activity due to lack of power.
Without it not being here and where I can see it and watch what is going on. My suggestion is for you to take this in to a shop it will cost a bit however way less than a new computer purchase to find out which object is preventing a boot. Usually if it is a device it will Blue Screen with codes to see what the object is.
If you are bent on doing this diagnosis on your own. Remove the battery from the computer. Plug it in to the wall socket with the power supply unit. If it does the same thing it is powered we know that power supply unit is working. Now put the battery in and unplug the laptop from the wall if it is doing the same thing or even boots and works right it is the power supply unit replace it. This would be my first option to replace the power supply unit first. They can be had really reasonable at or here $15.59 plus shipping. Click Here make sure it is the right one. I would start there if you are not going to shop it.

Advent Roma 1001 laptop. Turning on the laptop via the mains supply, the laptop springs to life and have no problems. The battery icon shows 100% charged and the battery l.e.d. light glows blue. Turn off...

The fact that the laptop is recognising the battery's presence and yet is not receiving any power from it is not a good sign I'm afraid. There are batteries available online for around £40 but you may want to take the laptop to a repair centre first where they can usually tell you (for around £7-£10) if it is definitely a battery malfunction or not before you splash out on a new one.
Sorry I can't be any more help, battery issues are usually pretty black and white, they're either broken or working. Hope you manage to get it sorted either way.

Hi i have a laptop advent 8109 i need to open it

Remove panel at the back, remove keyboard from prongs at the top, remove HDD, remove screws holding down the laptop, remove heatsink, remove fan, remove ODD connector, lift out motherboard at an angle. Its really something that needs to be shown, but thats the order in which you need to do it. If you can figure out the "in-betweens", you will be on your way to a cheap repair!

Power issues on HP DV1000

It is possible you have two dud batteries. Recharageable batteries have a limited life, they have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.
With the battery removed and only the power supply connected and the laptop powered up, when you touch the connector on the laptop and the laptop does not shut down then the laptop connector is OK.

If you can verify your new battery is OK the the fault could be the power supply adapter, if may not produce enought current to run and charge the battery. Try charging the battery overnight by turning off the laptop and leaving on the mains t charge. Borrow a mains adapter and test it on your computer.

You can also check the BIOS setting for power management, ie. hibernate, low power shut down etc.

Laptop does not take any mains power

Try clearing your CMOS. This is done by removing battery and mains power, lifting the speaker cover off and then look under the keyboard. Unscrew panel where keyboard ribbon enters, you should now see your RAM & BIOS chip. Disconnect ribbon next to BIOS chip and reconnect, that should clear your CMOS.
