Question about Hitachi 53SDX89B 53" Rear Projection Television
had tv for about 8 yrs. Started getting red and green shadows the other day - figured convergence. Bought new samsung but girl wants me to keep old tv and try to fix or sell (picture is still viewable and sound is good, etc.) Delivery of new unit comes with disposal of lod unit.
Keep and fix/sell - or have disposed? Don't want it - any idea how much (roughly) it would cost to fix? Or is it just a cool looking paperweight at this point?
You can find exactly what ICs are used by looking for the biggest heat sink in the unit. The ICs will be mounted on it.
It's not a hard repair to do, and certainly not one that should bring down an otherwise good set.

I have the same thing and just bought a replacement being delivered this Wed. It kills me to just discard it but I have looked on the boards and don't easily find the convergence IC to replace. Not a tech by any means but it looks like parts should be under $100 IC's seem to around between $20-30 each and I believe there are two of them. I have a link on how to replace them on another model but unless I am blind they are not on the same place on our model. FWIW here is the link if you want to check it out http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm.
I also can not take credit for the link and would gladly give the people credit but I can not remember where I found it........another senior moment lol
