Question about Mitsubishi VS-45603 45" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Brightness "Flicker" Hey Big Irish Thanks for your advise before. I replaced the ICs and it works great. I even made a few mods to improve it. I stuck some IC sockets in so that if the ICs go out again, all I have to do is pull out the old and stick in the new. I also drilled out the head sink and threaded holes to mount the ICs better and get better heat transfer. Before it was some crappy thing that just pushed on the front of them. Any way, now I've noticed that the brightness will come in and out once in a while. Its a minor problem compared to the convergence but it is rather annoying. What could this problem be?

    Does the fluid have a color because I've looked a little and it's not something that happens all the time that would indicate damage. Having a blob of "coolent" on a board seems like something that would be somewhat perminent. I do have "IRIS", I think that was the name of the setting, turned on. It initially turned the screen dark. Does this have anything to do with it? what is this setting? thanks

Good Day;

More than likely your TV has "COOLANT" (ethylene glycol) on the circuit boards. This fluid comes from the CRT's (picture tube) this fluid is used to keep the CRT's cool, such the name. This fluid from the CRT's leak when TV is on for long periods of time, the chamber expands and the seals leak.

One can remove this fluid by using "acetone" & small brush. The fluid is hard to see, use bright light, they spots can be smaller then a DIME. Also, the fluid can corrode the parts and traces on the boards. To protect the TV in future place heavy plastic or thick cardboard over affective area, make sure TV has proper air flow around TV.

If after the fluid has been removed and TV still does not work, call an Authorized Service Center to come out and repair TV after giving you an Written Estimate. The boards are not available.

Always try resetting the TV by unplugging it for one minute then plug back into A/C outlet and ALWAYS UNPLUG TV BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIR ON THE TV.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

Convergence is bad on left side...good on right.....where convergence is good the picture is great

Re-solder convergence output ICs pins and nearby big resistors that might solve your tv picture problem and if that does not help then replace both convergence output ICs to fix the problem.
Convergence output ICs would be available in local repair parts shop or google it.

Sony kp53v80 Red convergence stuck vertically

Did you replace the convergence ICs? The 4.7 ohm 1/2wwatt resistors and the pico fuses? Let me know and I will assist you, as often sonys will blow the 3.5 pico and a few of the 4.7 ohm 1/2watt resistors when the Ics fail.

Good Day, Butchilee,
Sounds like you have patience, hope your TV has some trace left. Hit recommends that you replace the originals with
STK-392-150's and the resistors. Replace said items with care then back down on the screen/ focus controls and gradually bring the screens up until you have pic, adjust focus. Go into customer menu and adjust color down, set brightness to 50%, contrast to 100%. Then go back and adjust the screens for proper, black/white, tracking. AND It's best to double check the soldering connections.
Good Luck, Big Irish.

Red will not line up

Good Day y'all;

First of all if the lights are on, that's good, the red light,LED's, indicates that there is power to the power regulator IC. The green lights, LED's, indicate that the DC voltages are present for those particular circuits. ALL GOOD! If off bad!
If after replacing the IC's with the 150's and still have color shift and all resistors are within 2% tolerance and adjustments were made properly. The digital convergence board may be defective.
If the picture is bleeding that normally is a gassy CRT, picture tube, and the bleeding changes with the brightness levels. You may try to rejuv but that may short life the tube.
Good Luck, get back if you want more details, Big Irish.
