    HI AvioriX,

Thanks ever so much for the reply. I had already checked out all of the volume settings etc. & visited toshiba website for the download. I had to search a bit as the Satellite A15-S127 did not appear on the dropdown list. I searched and found the SoundMAX driver in the "search all" downloads dropdown. However, after I updated the driver...still no sound.

Turns out I was seeking the wrong driver possibly... Under device manager >system devices>system speaker listed was Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC interface controller, Microsoft, date:7/1/2001, Version 5.1.2600.0, signed by microsoft windows publisher, Details tab, Device Instance ld - ACPI\PNPO800\4&32D50c2&0 - under properties the driver was not installed. Do you think this is the problem? I found a download of this driver, it automaticly installed under "system devices". I am wondering if it is a simple matter now of which device is enabled in device usage? Thoughts on this???

As a reminder running XP home SP2

    Thanks again for your help!

Hi

"No sound" issue can be related to several reasons, First try to play an audio and observe if any visually player moves, If yes you need to check all volume control settings, mixer and external physical volume dial. If attempt of playback comes up with error, I strongly recommend reinstall the driver. Please use the manufacturer's driver source. You can obtain the original driver at http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp free of charge

Hope it will help, if you need further assistance please don't hesitate to post more under this thread.
Good Luck

The driver you installed is not WHQL
which means you require to use the Driver Update options on Device Manager.

If your using Windows XP -
Right Click on My Computer and PROPERTIES
---
Open Device Manager
--
Scan for hardware Changes by Right Clicking on the Computer Icon at the top of the collapsible list
--
If the Audio or Multimedia Controller is greyed or has exclamation or question mark.
then its not properly installed
--
Update or Install the drivers.
--
Soundmax Drivers should be somewhere on your C:
since not all driver packages are WHQL .. they dont integrate with the system quickly.
--
It should start INSTALLING ..

Xp sound driver

Hi,

did you reinstall your XP operating system recently? Or did it work before? You can take a look into the device manager ( "Windows" + "R" key and in the command line type the "devmgmt.msc") if there is any driver problem.
If yes, try reinstalling the driver. You can find it for example here:
http://download.cnet.com/SoundMAX-Integrated-Digital-HD-Audio/3000-2110_4-146407.html
If you want to find yout if your Sound is working at all and your hardware is ok, then download an Linux live cd, burn the iso on a blank disc an boot it. If you can hear any sounds at start, then it is most probably your Windows settings.

First, shame on Microsoft! Second, many are having the same issue you are now experiencing. What has worked is installing the Vista driver package.

Click on the link below and download the file.
Go to device manager and uninstall the current driver for Soundmax Intergrated Audio soundcard.
Double click on the downloaded program to install your soundcard driver.
If the program has issues installing the driver (due to incompatibility with Windows 7) go back to the device manager and right-click on the Soundmax Integrated Audio soudcard
Select Update driver
When searching for the updated driver, direct the search (or select manual search) to the folder the file created when you double clicked on it (swsetup>Sp36530>i386>Vista)
This should enable your soundcard.

Best of luck!
