How do i get a printer cable attached to this PC

Hi Gene,
Most newer printers today are connect via USB. If it's an older printer, it might be connected with a Parallel cable. Pretty much all PC's today have done away with the old Parallel connector and have gone to USB. If your printer has a Parallel connection, it might be time to get either a Wireless printer, or one with USB connections.

Hope this helps

As this doesn't machine doesn't have a Parallel Port the only way to connect a Printer is via the USB.

If you've only got a printer with Parallel connection you need to get a Parallel to USB Adapter.

There are 2 types of Adapter depending on what type of connection your Printer has (examples at links below).

These are just examples to show you the 2 types and cheaper options are available.

Which jack do i plug the printer jack into to get connect to my computer

It depends on your printer... If it has a USB connection, use a USB cable and connect it to any free USB port on the rare side of your computer.
If it has only a Parallel connection, use a Parallel cable instead...

Windows 7 driver for Laserjet 6P

you will need an actual parallel port to connect that printer. If the new system doesn't have a parallel port, then I'd either:
  1. Install a parallel Port expansion card
  2. Get a USB Printer

Where is the port to hookup a epson stylus color 880

Generic comments:

Does your Epson use a parallel cable (25 or so pins - fat cable) or does it use a USB cable?

Does your Gateway have a Parallel port (very large "D" connecctor)? It certainly has a USB port, doesn't it?

You may have both. Which to use? Well a parallel cable will cost you about $25.00 and a USB cable (special for printers) will be about $10.00 - Price aside, I would be inclined to use the USB.

If you need drivers, visit search your printer and find your drivers.

May I recommend you visit and have them do a complete computer scan? I believe you will be pleased with the report they provide you on the status of your computer. Did I mention it is a free service?

You dont say what OS you are using.

Printer wont install

Your query is very vague. Is it the software that you can't install. The drivers??? Make sure your pc and printer are connected using usb cable or parallel cable. Usuaslly printer drivers and software discs run automatically when you insert them. If the disc is corrupt/damaged you can usually download the software/drivers from the manufacturers website.

Vista 64 bit OS says I must get a driver with a digital signature to install USB to DB25 parallel cable. The driver on the disc which came with the cable was not accepted by Vista.

1. Get a new signed driver from the adapter manufacturer.
2. Try the workarounds listed here:

For what it is worth, I generally found USB to parallel adapters worthless as most printers will not work with the adapter. Usually easier to get a new printer. If a desktop, get a parallel port expansion card.

connect the printer and the comp. and boot should recognize the new device.
did you add the plotter to "add printers" and its driver and to the correct port?
make sure your plotter is on and loaded and function key pressed.
also some cable manufacturers supply a download one if need be.
what software are you using? is the software cutter driver set to the correct printer and port?
(by default it never is)!!
