Make sure the error code you gave to us is E631 & E632 notE531 & E532, you number not on our menu, if my number is correct that's mean stapler motor defect, replace it!

Canon mx374 error 5040 please advise ?

This might be a system board that has failed:
Here is the link to the error code:
http://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx374.aspx?type=errorcode&errordetailid=tcm:13-1333319

A printer error has occurred.

Resolution

Turn off the machine and unplug the power cord from the power supply
Plug the machine back in and turn the power on
NOTE- If you disconnect the power plug, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted

If the error message is still showing, then it is necessary to deliver or send the printer to an authorized repair center.

If the printer is still under warranty, (generally one year from purchase) and supporting documentation is provided, then a free of charge warranty repair will be carried out.

Error code E522. How to fix this?

You have an issue with your staple finisher, probably need to inspect the stapler unit itself to make sure nothing is jammed in it and it moves freely. If you can't clear the error then most likely the unit is defective.

Hope this helps,
