My DANE-ELEC 8GB pen drive is playing up. it only works about 1 in 5 times. this has happened since i first purchased it(a few months ago), and has happened on every computer(including my laptop) that i've tried to access it on. when it does work, obviously, i can access it from 'My Computer'. In the 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' category(within Device Manager, within computer management), it registers the device as 'USB Mass Storage Device', but when it doesn't work, there is a black exclamation mark on a yellow background(on the icon), and within the device status(within properties) it says 'This device cannot start. (Code 10). this happens on every computer i've tried it on. when i first got it, i tried repeatedly inserting(and removing) it into a USB 1.0 port on my laptop(through fraustration), until i found out that it(the pen drive) was a USB 2.0 device. could this have damaged it in some way? i now have a USB 2.0 cardbus adapter attached to my laptop, but this has made no difference, and all other devices work fine, all the time. i've tried everything from updating the driver, uninstalling and re-installing the driver, assigning a new drive letter, to formatting it, but to no avail. the operating system on one of my computers is Media Center(USB 2.0), and on my other computer(not USB 2.0) and laptop(has a USB 2.0 cardbus adapter), the operating systems are XP SP2...soon after i gave up on my original DANE-ELEC 8GB pen drive, i bought a new one, and that works fine on all USB 2.0 supported computers i've tried to access it on - could my current operating systems or the fact i got an identical(in appearance anyway) pen drive be a problem? can somebody please help me?

    thank you for that, but i require a solution - any ideas? is it possible to fix a corrupted pen drive? if that is the problem

    i took it back, they tried to make it work, but to no avail, so they gave me a new one. problem solved.

Sounds like a corrupted pen drive to me.

    You can use error-checking tool and it may be able to find and repair the errors. Go my computer >> the pendrive right click it >> properties >> tools >> error checking (Have it fix the errors it finds, to see details of the errors un check auto repair)

    If its still under warranty i would send it back. It really sounds like a corrupted drive and theres not much more you can do about it.

If you have purchased your pen drive under warranty and it is still under warranty then replace it as early as possible because your pen drive will be totally damaged after some time
Because every pen drive has a media on which it stores data , problem like this occurs only when media is low and it will not work after some time.So my advise is just replace the device as fast as possible.

Hi i have purchased a kingston pen drive 32 gb and whenever i copy any file it shows as corrupt


There are many duplicate Pen drives usually 32, 64 GB.... They are very cheap price without warranty.

Next time buy a pen drive only from a shop like Computer Peripheral vendor where you will find the Pen Dive more expensive but with warranty. They are real one and their capacity are 2, 4 or 8Gb

Check to see if the flash disk has a switch located anywhere on the body. Some flash disks have this switch which is to write protect the flash disk from accidental erasure of its contents.

I don't you can solve this at home. You need expert that have hardware and software to retreive your data for you.

The reason you get this message is because your flash drive lost the header to tell the computer how to retreive your info.

I just bought a Dane-Elec 1 GB sd card when I put the card into the computer slot a yellow light comes on but nothing else happens. When I try to load manually the program stalls.


restated the computer and it worked fine.not sure if it helped but i also right clicked safely remove hardware in the icon panel.
