If the drive cable is pulling back on the transmission and the pulley is turning but the axle isnt turning replace the tranny - no seperate parts available for tranny you must replace the entire unit

ted can you give me mod number for your mower - 90 percent of them are unrebuildable - you must have a better one - if the cable is pulling the lever back far enough it has to turn- remove the belt pull the lever back by hand and turn the pulley to see if the axle turns

Make sure the drive belt that turns the wheels is in good working order as well. It may have detached.

Self propelled feature stopped functining. I previously replaced the wheels after the gears had worn down. Now I can't get any response to engaging the self-propelled cable.

Have you checked the drive belt? There should be a belt running from the main shaft (above blade) out to the wheel drive. You didn't list model number but I'm assuming it's front wheel drive. There should be a cover over this belt so it might be hard to see from underneath. Also there should be a cover on top going to the drive transmission. If the belt is OK, check to be sure lever is moving the transmission lever.

Craftsman model 917377411 front propelled drive not engaging

On your model I beleive these wheels are driven with small gears inside the inside diameter of the wheels. If the shaft is turning, then you probably have a gear problem. Remove a wheel and inspect both the wheel, and the small gear. They are prone to wear.I'd suggest replacing all four parts if worn.

Self-propell won't work

broken or worn out worm/sector gear most likely.

can you spin the drive pulley on the transmission and see if the wheels turn? If they dont spin you have internal damage or wear. If they do spin you either have a worn out drive engagement cable or it has come off the transmission.

good luck and be careful!

Self Propelled mower quit self propelling

you probaly have a broken gear or engagment lever. the part the cable goes through before the cable goes thru the deck. you also could have sheared a pin or the plastic gear that drives it.

My Poulan weedeater self propell is not working.

Wanda, there are several things that could be causing your problem.

1) The belt could be worn out, remove the cover and check it
2) The drive cable could be in need of adjustment, engage it with the cover off and the engine not running it should be almost as tight as a fan belt on your car, if not try adjusting the cable
3) The drive gears inside the wheels could be worn out, remove the drive wheels and look at the drive gear teeth, excessive wear is obvious
4) Worst case scenario would be that your transmission is worn out

If all the above check out good, come back and post the model number, I will look it up and see if I can point you to any other possibilities but these are the most likely causes

Toro 20016 self propel

If you take the wheels off and remove the belt from the small pulley on the the front axle underneath the pulley you should see a small transmission. You usually can split this unit in half . You will see two gears and sometimes one plastic and one metal. The plastic one is usually the culprit. Hope this will help you out. Donnyb60
