you say when you switch to Low side band the sound cuts out ie recieve signal ?. Sounds like your transmitting but not recieving

however if this is the same on all other settings it is possible your audio output chip has blown , without actually looking at the set it is a difficult one to diagnose . I am sumising that you have normal opperation when the Lsb is off therefore we can rule out the audio chip .. and focus on signal in in that case the possibility is the switch on your set is faulty or the low sideband module has gone faulty either way i think you should check with your local Rig doctor to fix this problem ........hope this is helpful Regards Vortash

Have a Magnum 257HP 10 meter radio. While connected to a 50 ohm dummy load, and a power meter, noticed that the USB and LSB would not modulate when a voice input is placed into the microphone. Also, on...

You may have a radio where the AM limiter has been defeated which can cause all kinds of issues. I would first check the mic is wired right and does not have a problem, the radio should have output with a tone to it on sideband--wattage up to over 20 watts on SSB is normal.

Cobra 148 gtl-st wont transmit but receives great

Check first your microphone

• check if TX is engaging when PTT is pushed.

• check for continuity ( mic and cable )

If you have not done these steps,

try it first, or borrow other compatible mic for Cobra 148GTL

from your friends on air.

How to use ssb usb am cb radio

  • Well, AM is Amplitude Modulation and Sideband suppresses the carrier and uses only the top half (upper sideband) or lower half (lower sideband) of the wave.

  • Whether using AM, USB or LSB you are on the same frequency although if someone is on USB and you are on LSB you will not be able to understand what the other person is saying because you are using different parts of the wave. So 27.185 (channel 19) on AM, USB or LSB is still 27.185.

That mod that magnum does really ups the sensitivity. so much thats is too much. If that model has a switch for the compressor turn it off. It will help 100% and make it sound decent not twangy and over modulated. Just the design of these newer exports are not like the old ones.

My Magnum S-9 Import radiow with Top Gun Modulator

The s9 can't cut your power limiter because of the upper and lower side band...thats the onl;y bad things about them can't get the swing you want because of side band.

Superstar 3900 with no USB or LSB on receive.

most likely been fiddled with and out of alignment. If you have a freq counter and a volt meter you could possibly fix it yourself. look at for the aligment procedure.

U mean on sideband? Frequency counter only useful on other than sideband operation. This does not mean the carrier insertion osc. is on frequency. If it needs adjustment, your voice will sound high/ low on transmit. Incoming signals will sound right after adjusting the osc.
