Imaginext batcave elevator string came out

The string that makes the elevator work came out and I can't figure out where to connect it to make the elevator work again

I gave this to my son yesterday for Christmas. The same thing happened. Anyone know how rto fix this issue?

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2011

I have the same issue? Anyone know how this mechanism works? The string is still connected, but very loose and does not bring the elevcator up and down.

  • Anonymous Dec 27, 2011

I had the same issue, my son used his all of half a day and the elevator stopped working. If you take the top of the cave off, and unscrew it from the elevator shaft you will see a black wheel. The string needs to be wrapped around this twice, there should be very little play in the string. What I had to do was take out the 3 screws that held it to the knob on top, then wrap the string back around the wheel making sure not to tangle the string more. once the string is wrapped 2 times you can reassemble.

I just spent several hours trying to fix my son's with no luck. I tried over and over to wrap the string around the wheel twice but it WOULD NOT STAY! Any other hints or ideas what I was doing wrong? I unscrewed the wheel, I am not sure I was trying to wrap the string correctly. I hate giving up, but I had to....

hi momtoally410, without seeing what you are doing it is hard for me to know what is going wrong but I think that once you get the string around the wheel then flip the wheel over (left to right) while keeping the string taught it may help, this should have the string crossing over itself. bring the cross right up to the wheel and flip the wheel over it to get the wheel inside the string again. once that is done you will want to secure it to the top of the bat cave making sure the string is coming out of the opening. hope this helps.

  • Anonymous Jan 31, 2012

Nicole, thanks, I think will probably try again. Did you start with the wheel upside down then flip it right side up to wrap around the string again, or did you have the wheel right side up the whole time? I tried keeping it rightside up the whole time. I am hoping I have better luck retrying, Luckily my son doesn't even care that it doesn't work, but I am too much a perfectionist to let it beat me :)

  • Anonymous Jan 31, 2012

from what i can remember it does not matter which way you hold the wheel it will screw in from either side. also make sure after you have the string on the wheel make sure there are no crossings up thru the elevator. good luck!

  • Anonymous Dec 22, 2012

Thank you so much! After 3 frustrating hours, I tried your suggestion and had it fixed in minutes :)

  • Anonymous Dec 25, 2012

wow thank you very much you have saved christmas

  • Anonymous Dec 30, 2012

Tried to fix this way but it was still very frustrating. Best I could do was to follow the instructions below but I had to cross the string over after wrapping it around twice. Result is that it is easier to put back together and the lift works fine coming up. But needs a bit of help getting down. Really poor design by Santa. Suggest his Quality Control process needs reviewed in the New Year!!

    Please someone help me!

So I wrap the string around the spool twice, but then when putting it back at the top of the shaft and the red wheel part the other side on top of it is where I get stuck... I screw the black spool into the red part but when you turn the wheel, the string just comes away from the spool no matter how hard I screw it to the top.

There's nothing gripping it and forcing the string to stay on the spool.

    Any ideas please?

Thank you Nicole. It worked just as you said. My son is happy again!

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2011

Did you take apart the entire top? I'm worried I'll mess up the telescope or did you just take the 3 screws out that held the elevator disc? I have exchanged once since christmas and talked with fisherprice but all they wanted to do is refund my money. My boys love it ! I'm just frustrated that for the price it brakes within hours of opening it.

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2011

Nevermind, I figured it out. Thanks so much for the instructions!!! My son is so happy!!

I am having the same issue, I took the black wheel apart and I am confused on how the string goes in the wheel. I am guessing it is supposed to be held by the black tab inside, but I cannot figure out how the string needs to go around teh tab and then wrap around the wheel. the best result I got was the elevator going halfway up. please help me.

You have to unscrew the roof. It wont come all the way off as the other pulley system is still attached. So un screw the 2 screws at the top of either side. Then the top screws holding the roof to the yellow struts( x4 screws. These are tricky to get 2. I used a variety of screw driver lengths for these. The easiest way for the ones around the lift shaft is to put the screw driver in and up the lift shaft :) Take note of screw sizes as you remove them, as there are 2 different sizes. Now you need to un screw the red turn knob from the black wheel ( set in the roof at the top of the lift shaft) The wheel is made of 2 parts screwed together. So if you take these out to you will need to reconstruct the wheel, make sure these are tight. The string should not be able to slip in between the 2 parts. Push the top back as far as it will go, place the string around the wheel twice, this is easiest if you place the wheel as close to the shaft top from the start, making sure the wheel is the right way up. ( I didn't lol) There should not be much left when wrapped around. At this stage you can test with the red Knob. Happy with your work you can now screw it all back together :D I was so happy I fixed this as I had to live up to my " mummy can fix anything" reputation. Thanks for helping as I had no idea what to do with the string, I had taken the wheel apart too and thought I had to some how thread it through the middle! Silly design ;/ Hope this helps anyone.

1. Remove the screws that connect the sides to the top. Two on each side.
2. Remove the screws that attach the yellow string guide to the top (two of these)
3. Remove the 3 screws that connect the red turning top to the string spool.

So many people get to this point but, if you're like me you had trouble wrapping the string just right so that it would stay on after extended use.

4. Wrap the string around the spool but first...
make sure the elevator is all the way at the bottom of the shaft. Make sure also that there are no twists, tangles, or knots in the string all along the length of the yellow string guide...
and when you wrap, push the spool against the string guide tight on the right side (when facing the front of the batcave). Wrapping around the spool twice will leave a little bit of play.

The thing I had to get my mind around was that this is not a simple tie off and spool in mechanism. There is a little wheel at the bottom of the elevator shaft. That means that every bit of string that is sucked in the top has to be fed back down to the bottom for the elevator to work properly.

5. Position the roof back in place and and hold everything together before replacing the screws. You should be able to turn the red thingy and the elevator should move up and down easily. If you get resistance half way up, your string isn't giving out what it is taking in and there is probably a tangle somewhere.

Don't get confused with the tabs on top of the black wheel. Loop the string on the inside track of the wheel. Kind of like putting a chain back on bicycle. But the trick is to loop it around the wheel again to create tension.

Imaginext Batcave drawbridge won't go all the way up.

Turn the batcave over and remove the long black piece in the center section (5 screws). Re-align the two white gears so that the drawbridge stays shut. Then put everything back together. Easy 2 min. fix.

Imaginext Batcave lift sticks and doesn't go up and down. Does anyone know how to fix this?

the thread is too long, so you have to remove the top, screws (x2) on either side, then unscrew the lift reel (black disc) from the red twister (on top where figures feet fits into).
Take lift to top of run until it comes off runners, pull two halves apart and trim thread behind knot to shorten to required length), retie knot and re assemble.

My fisher-price big foot monster is not working and is making 3 beeps how do i fix it??

I  worked for Fisher Price as a model make for many years. I am since retired and don't remember this toy. There is probably no way you can fix it your self. Call them @ 716 687-3300 and they will direct you to consumer affairs. You will more than likely have to send it back and they will replace with a new one.Hope this helps.
