Question about Dell Computer Refurbished OPTIPLEX SX270 SYSTEM BOARD Computer Motherboard
I just started work for a small company that has given me this refurbed unit. I'm trying to get all I can out of it and the last thing on my list is to upgrade the processor. It has a P4 1.8 with a FSB of 400. The BIOS was version A02 and I've already upgraded it to A09, the last revision I saw on Dell's website. What's the best P4 I can upgrade too? I've found them pretty cheap but I don't want to buy one the motherboard won't handle it. Dell's support sidesteped this direct question. Buying a new computer or MB is not an option.
From what I can tell you can use NORTHWOOD CPUS or POWERLEAP modified cpus on the GX260 but not prescott. as these are incompatible
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/specs.htm#1110653 would suggest 400 or 533 based P4s
using Powerleap's configurator http://www.powerleap.com
it appears that it is possible to use an Intel P4 3.06GHz 533MHz 478pin 512K Northwood CPU w/Hyper-threading OEM
