Thanks dhudson15, I will look into purchasing a throttle Pot, do you feel it's the small one on the tiller connected directly to the Throttle or the Larger one further into the Machine?

  • CaptElad Dec 01, 2008

Thanks dhudson15, I have now looked into the prices of the two pots and the larger one is very steep, so befor I purchase either I will dig out my VTVM as you suggest, looking for smooth response!!

Again thank you, and do you have any suggestions as to the clicking noise coming from the Motor/Axle, it varies with my speed!!

Thanks for any help you can give me on the clicking as well!

This sounds like a bad throttle pot. You need to have it replaced.

I can get a replacement for you if your going to try replacing it yourself, or are you looking for a local repair shop? Looking at has a list, and there are more that are not on their website but they will give you over the phone.

There are two pots, one for speed only, and one for speed and direction. It is the speed/direction pot that I have seen go bad. It's basically a 5k long stem pot with a centering spring. Its available from Pride only as an assembly. I would test it to be sure, you should see aa smoth response across the entire range on motion. The only other issue is bad wiring, which I saw after the owner tried to play with it and hooked it back up wrong.

Yes, depending on model, that assy lists for up to about $200. I try to be very sure at that price. If you want specifics, you can emial you s/n to me at d h u d s o n 1 5 at g m a i l with a .com extension (take out the spaces) and I can talk more specifically to your model.

I suspect that the pot is dropping out and the clicking is the brake turning on and off as the pot calls for brake and then speed. EMail me at D*H*u*d*s*o*n at gmail dot com (take out the stars and fix the gmail for my address) and I can better their price for ya. I may even have an old pot you could use to rebuild yours...

Pride ultra making noises during ride

If you turn to the right and the speed of the clicking sound goes faster then your left wheel has the problem. The shaft key is a little loose and is shifting while running. If you turn to the right and the speed of the clicking sound goes slower then the right wheel has the problem. Sometimes a stick will become lodged underneath making contact with the wheel or rim making a clicking noise. These noises can drive me nuts. Scooter Doctor App

The kids drove my Pride Legend XL through a puddle. I doesn't go anymore. I need a technical Reference Manual with schematics. I could fix it myself or......? Batteries are fully charged. No...

I had a similar problem with my Pride Legend XL when I drove it
through a puddle accidently and some water splashed up underneath
the motor controller. It would buck or go then stoo without any warning
as the electric brake was applied. Had to take the seat off and use a
hair dryer on the controller connections to dry them out. It doesn't
seem to take much water to make these inoperative. After thoroughly
dried out with a hair more problems like that with it.

I have an xl8 mobility scooter that keeps cutting out and stopping dead, i then switch it off and on and it starts, could it be the motor?

My Pride Colt XL8 keeped cutting out (7 flashes of LED, Speed pot error) , checked all the cable connections up tiller arm as recommended by Pride technical support, worked for about a week, then problem returned. Eventually took to Pride dealer, with problem occasional occurring, they found it to be the lower tiller cable support bracket straining the cables connector intermittently and so removed the bracket, the problem then was solved !
