Re: web cam installation
Go into the device manager and search for the driver by the details.
Start >> control panel >> system >> hardware tab >> device manager >> the webcam right click it >> properties >> Details tab, copy that whole line of #'s and letters. Try to search for that or post it here also you may be able to see what the brand is in the device manager.

go to my computer. with drives and CD drive, there also the web camera. open it.
if not, see the programmes. there must be a programme related to your webcam.
If not, your system have no web camera driver. go to the toshiba site/ support and download web cam driver, install it and enjoy.
Looking at a photo of the unit, I would try to pry it open along the seams with a flat headed screwdriver, or a sharp knife blade. Unless you are skilled in electronics repair opening the case may not be helpful. Checking on eBay, enter "adapter M8482", you can buy one for under $15 including shipping, from Hong Kong. US plug, with several weeks delay in the post.
Try first going to Acer page and download and install again the Cam drivers.
Also go to Control Panel > Installed hardware, and check if the Cam is listed under installed devices.
Check if cam is disabled, in that case enable it.
If the camera is not there, and installing drivers does not fix the problem, then the repairer may have forgot connecting the 4 pin connector to cam. Call the repairman and ask them how to proceed to have the problem fixed.
Yeah this is most likely a driver problem. You see the drivers from windows xp wont work with windows vista. It is very likely that your camera was not made with vista drivers if it is more than a year old. Unfortunately without a windows vista drivers your camera wont work. so you have two options:
1- find out if the camera has a vista drivers and install them 2- buy a new camera ( i know its frustrating)
And if i may recommend the logitech cameras, they are sturdy and the mid range ones have great picture, and best of all there tech support is easy to find when you want a new driver.
As long as you know the company of the web cam - which may be written on the camera or the power adapter - you should be able to go to the company's web site. From there, you can usually identify your camera from a picture on the site.
