Toshiba Laptop Malfunction (2)

I have a toshiba Equium M50-216. When you login, the desktop fires up and it looks like it is working. However, it then switches itself off and restarts. It will constantly do this cycle until the battery is removed to turn it off. I can't even use the recovery disc because once the desktop appears , it just restarts again. Please can you help. (i have music and pictures i don't want to lose). Thank you.

This problem could be caused by some hardware or software conflict or power supply.

Do the following:

When your computer start and before windows load hit F8 and select "safe mode"
On safe mode unistall the last program installed (if you've installed any) and also all innecesary programs installed on your machine. Run some registry cleaner.

Start in normal mode and see what happen.

Hi manny, have you tried booting to safe mode? (when you see the toshiba logo, press F8 continously until you see the Advanced Boot Options, choose Safe mode or Enable VGA Mode then check if the problem still persist. If it doesn't, it's a possible video driver problem, maybe windows update changed it if you set windows automatically to download & install drivers for your computer. If that doesn't fix it, maybe one of your startup programs might be causing it, try running msconfig (start > run > msconfig) then disable all startup items on the startup tab & also on the services tab also (check "hide all microsoft service" first before clicking on disable all). Give me a feedback

Hope this helps.

This sounds like 2 things, it could be a video driver conflict or there's a startup program that might be causing the problem. To check which is which, try restarting the computer > press F8 when you see the toshiba screen until you get the Advanced Boot Options.. then choose Enable VGA Mode (I'm assuming your using WindowsXP). If that works and you get to the desktop screen with no problems, try removing the display driver & replace it with a compatible one (usually on the cd that came with the laptop). If that doesn't work, try choosing Safe Mode and run msconfig (start > run > msconfig) and disable all services & startup programs (don't forget to check "hide all microsoft services"). then restart the computer. If this doesn't work and continually goes to a loop, do you see a bluescreen with error messages on it? Like Error 0x00000003 or 0x0000000E etc.? or a memory dump error? That could be a hardware problem already and it may require service.

Hope this helps.

Why won't my Toshiba Equium P200D-139 laptop stay on

It sounds like either the battery needs replacing or you need a new power supply.

If it works while plugged into the power and only shuts off when unplugged then it's the battery otherwise it's the power supply.

The best option is get a restore disc from Toshiba, I've done this a few times and it is a very easy process. Once you have the disc just boot the laptop with disc inserted and away you go!!.

This is a link to the download site for Toshiba drivers. Select the model of your laptop and click Go to retrieve a list of available drivers. Before doing this, however, you need to be certain of the model number of your laptop. Equium is the make of toshiba desktop computers and A60 is the model number for a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Look on the bottom of your laptop for a label that will have the exact model number you need then select that on the website.
