You cannot use the printer by just keeping only 1 cartridge in the printer.as both the cartridges should be present in the printer then let the colour cartridge is empty what the problem is.you can print the black printouts with empty colour cartridge in the printer, but both the cartridges should be in the printer.and if still you get the message as colour cartridge is empty please replace the colour cartridge.the simple option is yopu can get the same cartridge refilled.as the cost of refilling is 10 times less then the new cartridge.

When I print from the internet my copy prints my color comes out a different color I think it might be my black ink is off I have a dell 946 all-in-one printer.

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Can you copy a document under the glass? Black & White and color? Do they look ok?

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges .

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would that these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

I have a MFC-79CW running out of yellow colour, now it seems unable to copy paper by pressing 'BLACK' buttom. Do I have to replace new colour boxes just to use B/W ? Thank You

Yes, you have. Inkjet printers use color ink in cleaning cycles, so your color cartridge will be eventually empty even if you only print in B/W.
If you need to print/copy a lot of B/W documents, I would recommend a laser printer, or an inkjet printer with individual color cartridges (printers from Epson, Officejet from HP, etc). You'll save some money by using those.

Recently when printing my document in black color. The black color is not black enough. Please help my. Thank you.

You have not indicated which brand printer you are using? Anyway this could be problem of setting OR your ink in the cartridge is finished. Do the following: Go to Printer and Faxes in Control Panel Right click on the printer in use. Click on Properties in the displayed menu. Go to Printing Preferences. Select Grey scale/Black in the check boxes. Try printing again. If it still does not solve your problem. Go to Properties again and press Maintenance Tab. Clean the print head and the nozzles. Try Printing again. If still it does not solve your problem I am afraid you have to change the ink cartridge.

Not printing after color cartridge ran out - new black cartridge installed.

Yes, this printer has fixed printheads and must have ink in each color to prevent damage to the printheads. Even when printing black only each color is spit in the servicing area to keep the printhead unclogged.

Copying a Document

That sounds like a either a dry cartridge or an electronic failure in the cartridge. I would say replace the cartridge first. Try to take the cartridge out, and wipe it with a damp paper towel. If you see a lot of ink, run it under the sink w/ warm water for a minute. But really, I'd say replace it!
