FAX TRANSMISSION I LIVE WITHIN AREA CODE 514, MY FAX WILL NOT SEND TO AREA CODE 418. THE FAX AT THE OTHER END RINGS AND THERE ARE FAX TYPE NOISES BUT AFTER THIRTY SECONDS OR SO THE DISPLAY INDICATES "NO FAX DETECTED". I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL FAX NUMBERS IN THIS AREA CODE WITH THE SAME RESULT. THE PEOPLE TO WHOM I AM SENDING CONFIRM THAT THEIR FAX MACHINE IS RINGING.

I have the same problem. I can fax perfectly to some while others ring, but my fax states no fax detected. I know it is this machine because I can fax with my other machine to the same number perfectly. If anybody finds a fix for this, please email me at mrp@uskmfg.com. Thank you so much!

I have the same error. When I send oversea fax, it shown "No fax detected" or just "Busy", however, if I send with other model such as 3050 or 1152, it went through straignt without any error. HP local vendor called but could not help.

I have had this issue as well faxing to any area code in general outside of my own. The only thing I found to work was manual faxing. This comes from the manual.

Dial manually from the handset
1. Load the document into the ADF.
2. Call the recipient on the handset.
3. When the recipient is ready(when you hear the fax sound), press Start Fax on the product control panel.

I have user with same issue. She got on the line with HP. Manual settings had to be changed on the machine. All she could say was that had to go to Setup, then something about commercial ring off and some other stuff. Fast talking with a little computer literacy. Couldn't get alot from the conversation

It is possible that there are "gain" issues on the telecoms link line from 514 to 418... I'm not sure how this is best resolved....apart from speaking to your telecoms company, try to find out which telecoms company these recipients use to see if there is any common provider with this issue, however any resolution along these lines is unlikely to be resolved quickly.

it may be best to perform a "scan to email" if your machine supports it, where a fax machine/scanner scans the sheets and then attaches the scanned images to an email on your PC, which you can then sent to an email recipient. the recipient can then print and treat like received fax...

as your fax machine appears to send ok to recipients in your own area code, I can only assume that it is working properly.

My fax will not send. the report says fax sent and the result is no answer

Sounds rather conflicted...any way, first step "send" a fax to a phone that rings (cell phone, phone near the fax). Make sure that the phone you are calling rings, if not plug a phone in to the fax line and make sure you have a dial tone. If you do try to change the phone line on the fax and repeat. Basicly this step is to ensure the fax is dialing out.

Next, dial the number you are faxing to with your cell phone or another phone. Does the fax machine at the other end answer (squaking noises). If not are you dialing the right number. If the fax machine at the other end does pick up, hang up and wait a few mins (so the line will clear) and try to send your fax again.

Try sending a test fax to a known good (have sent faxes to the number before with success) fax. If this works, its a communication hand shake error. You may need to power cycle both fax machines.

Last Test, plug a different fax machine in were this one is. Using the same phone line and such try to fax again. If this is the only thing that works, the fax machine may have a bad modem.

If further information on testing the modem on the HP fax is needed let me know.

I hope one of these step gives you the help and information you are looking for.

HOW TO SEND FAX INTERNATIONALLY

Sending a fax to another county is easy - almost as easy as sending a fax to someone in your own country. The only difference is the phone number that you'll dial.
When sending a fax from one U.S. city to another, you dial a 1, then the area code, then the seven-digit phone number. When sending a fax from the U.S. to another country, you usually dial 011, then the country code, then a city code (which is like an area code), then the phone number. (The phone number isn't necessarily seven digits.) Check out the web site www.HowToCall.info, which will give you the specific country and city codes for the place that you're trying to send a fax to.
Other than figuring out the phone number, faxing internationally is identical to faxing domestically. Fax machines in other countries use the same protocols as ones in the United States, so you should have no difficulty communicating with a foreign fax machine. Older fax machines and noisy overseas phone lines may cause the transmission to take a bit longer than you're used to, but it should get there.
The first time you send a fax to another country, it might be a good idea to listen in as the fax machine dials. On some fax machines, you can press the "Dial" button to hear the dial tone, and dial the number manually. Listen for the ring and fax tone, then press the Start button to send the fax. You might want to do this the first time you send a fax overseas, just to make sure it's working as expected.

TELEPHONE HOOK-UP REQUIREMENTS

Just a plain telephone cord, plug it in. Go into setup and setup your fax name and number that will appear on the fax your sending. Set the number of rings before answering. Place a test fax call to some fax machine.
  1. Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).
  2. When your fax is received by the HP Test Fax Service, we will generate a return fax to you within five minutes confirming that we received your fax. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.
If you do not receive a return fax within 5-7 minutes, there may be a problem with the setup of your fax machine. Consult the user manual that came with the product for proper setup and configuration.

HP 950 fax will send but does not receive faxes

It could be that your machine has been set to "no answer" in the number of rings setup area. See page 46 on how to change the number of rings.

It could also be set for a "distinctive ring pattern". See page 51 on how to change that setting.

User manual is here:

Cannot send or receive faxes

How to dial *xx codes when faxing When sending a fax, it may be necessary to enter in a *xx code as the first part of the number. Follow the steps below to dial *99 when using a VoIP service. NOTE: Since the *xx code is an instruction to the phone system, this must be dialed live.
  1. To pick up the line on the HP All-in-One, press Start Black Fax or Start Color Fax without entering a phone number first.
  2. When you hear the dial tone, enter in the *99 code.
  3. Wait a few seconds and then enter in the rest of the number.
  4. The HP All-in-One will complete the fax as normal.
What can be done to help the fax transmission? The communication speed is a major factor in fax transmission over VoIP. Currently there are three speed standards.
  • Fast - v.34 which communicates at 33.6 Kbps.
  • Medium - v.17 which communicates at 14.4 Kbps
  • Slow - v.29 which communicates at 9.6 Kbps
Changing the Fax Speed Adjustment setting to Medium may improve your ability to send a fax over a VoIP network. On most HP fax products the connection speed can be set to a lower speed. Those that do not have a Fax Speed setting generally communicate at medium speed or lower as this was the past standard. Consult your user's manual for information specific to your model. Changing the Fax Speed Adjustment to a lower speed Follow the steps below.
  1. Press Setup .
  2. Select Advanced Fax Setup .
  3. Press OK .
  4. Select Fax Speed .
  5. Press OK .
  6. Select Medium .
  7. Press OK .
  8. Try the fax again. If you continue to have problems faxing, contact your VoIP provider as they may have options to improve the ability to send and receive faxes over VoIP telephone service.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hi zoaj,

More then likely you have the fax set up to USE A DIALING PREFIX.

Therefore it is automatically doing this, regardless of what you input.

Follow the proceedure below ( which comes directly from the users manual for your printer type ) to change this. Delete the " USE A DIALING PREFIX " information.

once that is done, it will no longer automatically add the prefix for you. :)

I have BOLDED the relevant information below that pertains to this.

Please take a moment to evaluate my solution. Your appropriate rating of my solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Using the Fax Setup Utility Use this utility to adjust the fax send and receive settings. When you save these settings, they apply to every fax you send or receive. You can also use this utility to create and edit your speed dial list.

Will not send outgoing fax

From what your saying, the problem is not on your end, but on the receiving end. The other fax is not answering the call.
