Question about Adobe InDesign CS2 for PC

Invalid Page numbers

I have a large document with over 100 pages. I have created two master pages that assign odd and even page numbering. When I go to print the document it automattically shows SEC1:235, and will not let me select a range to print from. I do not want to print all 235 pages at once, but I do not know how to resolve this. When I try to enter in a range, for ex. 26-120, it tells me the page numbers are not valid. Help!

Try to type the page numbers as sec26-120.

Else... remove the section indicator in the number and section option...

Hello,
Try typing "SEC1:26 — SEC1:120". Maybe this will work?

SOURCE: Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0 Can't get page numbers to show

OK, That's why it's not working.. In order to get them on there, do the following:

Once you have loaded the page into acrobat, goto the Document Menu, mouse over header and foot, and choose add..

In there, there will be a button that will say "insert page number", just click on that (only once), then click "ok".. That will add page 1...2...3...4, etc to the top of every page.

As a side note: you can also choose where to put the page number by clicking in one of the text boxes marked "Left Header", "Center Header", etc.. and then click on "insert page number".. You will be able to see a preview first before actually adding the numbers..

Tip

Scan multi-paged document and create a single PDF document

1. You need to install a PDF printer driver on your computer first.
There are quite a few freeware PDF writer programs on the Internet you can download one such as CutePDF.
To download CutePDF printer driver (freeware) click on this link :-
http://www.cutepdf.com/

2. Using your computer SCAN the first page then click on File - Save the image as a jpg file Eg. image1.jpg

3. Repeat the scan the next page and save the image file Eg. image2.jpg

4. Repeat step 3 for the other pages.

5. Close the scanner when finished scaning.

6. Open a Word document then place each image file on a new page in the Word document

7. Save the Word document if you require but not needed.

8. Click on File - Print then select CutePDF printer (or your PDF printer driver) and save the PDF file. This PDF file will contain the multiple pages of the scanned pages.

I installed adobe 6 professional a few days ago on win 7 computer. but the printer drivers were not installed. i am not able to create pdf documents. also, when i try to download any pdf file from a web...

I am not 100% certain but I am not sure you can use that old a Adobe version with Win 7. The current Adobe Pro for creating .pdf files is now version 9 for Win 7. That may be part of your problem. Consult the Adobe website and see if that older version will even run in Win 7

Instructions to number tickts

Hello,

MS Pub still lacks a lot of luster, and I've taught this program at the local community college and recently built a template for someone needing the same thing.

The trick is in tracking the numbers which can be done by adding more pages as you go or printing them off as needed one by one and keeping track with a log using notepad. In notepad you can press F5 and it will insert a time/date stamp and you can enter which number pages you printed so you don't overlap, etc.

You want to Insert a Field in the Header or Footer. The field you want is Page Number. You will notice some formatting options and choose consecutive and the options that seem right to you as you are working in the field. You can then select that field and format the color and font face, etc. I've always used red bold. Each page you add will ratchet up the page number for you automatically. The pitfall you may encounter is that MS Pub may crash after a certain number of pages are created. It has and seems to always get a bit better with each new version but be aware of this potential problem and keep a backup of your template file and your working copy. You may find you can also do this in Word which has no crash issue for 1,000 pages.

Still, the most practical way to go about this would be to print off all 1,000 at once or do 100 at a time and keep your log up to date, creating a new working file for each 100 copies with the starting page number 101, 201, etc. This all depends on when MS Pub decides to crash (if it does at all) and how you choose to go about this.

If you are unclear as to what I've stated in the above feel free to ask by commenting back to this thread and I will work with you until you're done. That is if you are willing. I am.

Regards,
Worldvet

TOC Page Numbers Don't Display in PDFed Document

Apparently Adobe doesn't consider importing pagination data from Word documents to be important enough to code Acrobat to find Microsoft's record of the page numbers and import them properly. I would suggest using Adobe Acrobat 7's page numbering feature, and simply number your pages appropriately, to match your table of contents.
