Unfortunately your lcd screen is bad and needs to be replaced. Remove your screen, (don't forget to emove the battery first) get the number off of the back of the lcd and buy another one. Make sure THE NUMBERS MATCH, as close won't do. I see this problem about 2-3 times a month.

How to locate the Cmos battery

The CMOS battery is the RTC battery. Real Time Clock.

It's smaller version of the CR2032 batteries you're used to seeing in a desktop computer.
It's in a plastic holder that resembles a bag. The plastic 'bag' wraps around the battery.
There are two wires attached to the battery, and come out of the 'bag'.

One wire connects to the Positive pole of the battery, and the other wire connects to the Negative pole.
The wires are soldered to the Battery.
At the end of the wires opposite of the Battery is a small white connector. It's a Male connector.
The Male connector plugs into a Female connector on the motherboard.

Once you have the RTC battery pack removed, and the battery itself removed out of the 'bag', you can match up a new battery to it. Carefully make a **** in the side of the bag, and remove the battery/wire combo.
Have a competent repair person remove the wires, and connector to the old battery, and solder the wires/connector to the new battery.
Install the battery/wires/connector combo back in the 'bag', use glue to seal the 'bag' once more.
(Or you can use silicone)

The RTC Battery is on the BOTTOM of the motherboard. This means the laptop has to be completely disassembled in order to access the RTC Battery.

In the above heading it states Acer TravelMate 4000 PC Notebook. This is the TravelMate 4000 series.
There are many models in that 4000 series.
The Model Number is on the bottom of the laptop.

Models in the 4000 series are; 4000, 4010, 4020, 4050, 4060, 4070, 4080, 4100, 4150, 4200, 4210, 4220, 4230, 4260, 4280, 4320, 4330, 4330G, 4400, 4500, 4520, 4530, 4600, 4650, 4670, 4720, 4730, and 4730G.
The above Model list may not be complete.

The disassembly guide for the Acer TravelMate 4000 series will cover all of the above models.

Scroll down with your eyes to the Travelmate heading.
Go down to the third line that starts with 2700, read across to 4000.
Click on 4000.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
However if you do not have the latest Adobe Reader, I would suggest downloading it.
(Adobe Reader 9.3.4)

After you click on 4000 nothing will happen for up to 30 seconds. (Maybe more)
The screen will be blank. The file is downloading in the background, and after it has fully downloaded, the first page will pop up.

Would appreciate it if you would rate my solution.

try clearing out startup programs that run in the background if you are using windows xp go to start click on run type in MSCONFIG, look for startup tab then uncheck the items that you don't need usual items that you need to keep on running is just the antivirus program. if you are using windows vista on start search type in MSCONFIG then practially do the same thing see if it stops locking up. hit me back on the results. thanks!

Hi

This should be correct solutions as well as risky..

Go to start menu and click on run.. A run window opens.. U type in that window that msconfig. Another window opens.. U select the start up tab.. There u can find some programs which are run at start up.. Many are unwanted for home use.. But don't touch others because u touch others means it may be a os file.. So u disable only the compaq program.. U can easily find that program from that.. Please don' t touch others.. After disabling restart ur system then that program will not run at startup..
After this restarting windows give a warning message that the system configuration settings changed.. There u can find the option that don't show this message again when start up.. U enable that and give ok.. I think now the problem is solved for u..
