Unfortunately your lcd screen is bad and needs to be replaced. Remove your screen, (don't forget to emove the battery first) get the number off of the back of the lcd and buy another one. Make sure THE NUMBERS MATCH, as close won't do. I see this problem about 2-3 times a month.

Not sure, but try loading Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot and lowering screen resolution. In Safe Mode you can even run System Restore. It load to a previous date that you choose.

Tip

Winxp Applications Startup Time, Decrease your Applications startup time...

By default, Microsoft includes the /prefetch:1 switch to speed up it's Windows Media Player application start time. This switch can be used for other Windows applications and also many third party programs.

Example #1

You have AOL installed on the computer. Complete the steps outlined below to add the /prefetch:1 switch to AOL's Target path.

1. Right Click on the AOL shortcut and select properties from the menu.

2. In the Target: Field add the /prefetch:1 switch to the very end of the path, like this: "C:\Program Files\America Online 8.0\aol.exe" /prefetch:1 and then click ok.

Now start AOL. It would load at least 50 times faster than ever before.

Example #2

1. Go to the Start butoon/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools

2. Right Click on System Restore and select properties from the menu that appears. Add the /prefetch:1 to the Target Path entry so it look like this
%ystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe /prefetch:1 and Click ok.

Now System Restore will start immediately when executed.

Note: This switch will only work with some programs. Others will return a message saying the programs. Others will return a message saying the program in the target box is invalid. Just remove the switch.

Good luck!

Hp pavilion slimline s3600t desktop pc - Wont boot up, flashes to blue screen after hp blue screen and restarts. no option for safe mode either

A Blue Screen is more time than not indicative of a driver issue or some hardware issue. First of all when it boots to the screen that shows Safe Mode and the other options, scroll down and see if there is an option to Stop or Disable Automatic Restart on Boot. This will stop the screen from restarting itself when the blue screen appears and give you a chance to read and see what the error is. Afterwards it is ok to run Startup Repair. Startup Repair does not delete any of your personal files. Let startup repair run and then see if it boots. Once again, startup repair does not delete any of your music, documents, pictures, videos or programs. System Restore does not delete any of you documents, music, pictures, videos or programs. System Recovery WILL DELETE all of your music, pictures, videos, documents & any programs you've added since you brought the computer home from the store. System Recovery sets your computer back to the very first time you turned it on after you purchased it. I would run the startup repair, if that does not fix your problem, see if you can run a System Restore. A lot of time the Restore Points are damaged or missing when this happens, but give it a try and restore to a point before you started having the blue screen issue. If all fails you're going to need a system disc so that you can get into the Recovery Console so that you can enter a dos command in the little black box that opens up with white letters. You want to type: chkdsk /r
Let it run. It will run well over an hour and you will notice the percentage of completion going from high to low, but that's ok. Let it run to completion then try rebooting. If this doesn't work, you're going to need to take it to a repair shop or reload the operating system yourself.

I am doing a clean install from the recovery disk, eveything went fine, all the files copied over, but when it rebooted a message window popped up and said "Windows setup cannot configure Windows to run on...

There might be a bios setting that you have too set for the recovery mode. If you can get into the BIOS then check to see if there's a setting for recovery. You can also try at boot up (before the Windows error) to hit Ctrl-F10.

How to get the emode bar off of my screen

I would use the system utility called "msconfig" if you type that at the run or search line it will bring up a utility. I would click on the startup tab and look for something in there that says something to the effect of acer emode bar and disable it and any other programs you don't want starting up with your computer. Once you have that done close the utility and it will prompt you to restart the pc, restart and when you boot into windows, you will get a message stating your using selective startup option, there a check box in that window to make it now show every time you start windows. That should clear the emode bar from your screen.

If you don't want the program, try uninstalling it from add and remove programs in the control panel.

I hope this helps, and thanks for using FIxYa,

Eric

It takes my PC a very long time to boot up, what can i do?

If you have installed any softwares recently it might slow down the pc as many softwares will install a startup file in order to start faster. You can shut these programs from starting up when the pc starts.
I put 2 steps to resolve this in order of simplicity.

Remove icons from the Startup folder
Some programs open with a shortcut icon in the startup folder (Startup icons). Use the following steps to show any startup icons that might be hidden and remove startup icons from the startup folder:
NOTE: Removing items from the Startup folder does not uninstall the software program.
1. Right-click the Start button, and click Explore . The Windows Explorer window displays with Start Menu already selected.
2. Click the plus sign ( + ) next to Programs .
3. Click Startup . The shortcut icons are listed in the right pane of the window.
4. To show any hidden icons, click Tools , click Folder Options , and click the View tab.
5. Click Show hidden files and folders (Windows XP/ME) or Show all files (Windows 98), and click OK .
6. Click an unwanted startup item in the right pane of the window and drag it to a blank area on the Windows desktop. Release the mouse button to drop the icon onto the desktop.
7. Continue dragging unwanted icons until all unwanted startup icons are on the desktop. Click Yes to any window that display asking to confirm the removal of a read-only file.
8. Close Windows Explorer and restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Delete the startup icons that were moved to the desktop after you are satisfied with the way the software programs are working.
If you find that a particular software program should not have been removed from the Startup folder, double-click the startup menu item to open the Startup window. Then drag the icon from the desktop back into the Startup window.
