TI 83 screen

Hello, I just put in new batteries for me TI 83 calculator and there is a dark screen when I turn it on. I know that you can adjust the color of the numbers by holding down the 2nd key and up/doen arrows, butthis screen will not go away. I use it at work, and leave it on my desk, so it has not been droppped or steped on, no water damage, or anything. Before the other batteries died ( like 4 months ago) it was fine. Please help.

I just put new batteries in my TI-83 and the screen is dark. I tried using the 2nd key plus the down arrow to lighten the screen but that is not working either. Please help.

I am having the exact same issues with mine. I just replaced the batteries and the screen cannot be adjusted. The only thing I am able to do is turn it on and off. I even downloaded the guide and tried to troubleshoot but it is not working. Please help!

This probably won't help at all, but it's worth a shot - I had the same problem and took the new batteries out then put them back in. And now it's working fine....weird...

TI-83 have adjusted the brightness but can't type or see flashing indicator

If the screen is not busted, adjust the contrast without going all the way to totally dark or to totally blank. Calculators do occasionally become unusable (old age, mishandling).

My ti 83 will turn on when i press the clear thing but when i try to put something in nothing happens

Hi imagenius1,

You need to free up some memory. Try clearing your RAM memory. Your calculator should operate properly afterward.

Press [2nd] [MEM] [7] [1] [2]

If the steps above did not reset the memory to your Ti 83 family calculator try the procedures below.

Please be prepared to re-install the calculator's OS if you run through this process.

If you have a straight Ti 83 without the Plus or, Silver Edition label goto (Procedure 2) below. If your Ti calculator is a Ti 83 Plus or better goto (Procedure 1).

(Procedure 1).

  1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.

  2. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and, then press [CLEAR] one more time to remove the message.

  1. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system.

  2. Steps to re-installing the operating system:
~Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the PC and the calculator.
~Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
~Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS. If you could not install the new OS on your calculator goto step 4.

  3. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

  4. If the above process did not reset your calculator. Try re-doing (Procedure 1) and, extend the time in step 4, by 5 minutes to 10 minutes before you put all the batteries back in the calculator.

(Procedure 2).

For a straight Ti 83 without the Plus or, Silver Edition label try the procedure below.

  1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.

  2. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [ON] key for 20 seconds. Reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on.

Hello I have putted new batteries in my ca&lculator ti-83, but it won't turn on? Do I have to change the lithium battery also?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we'll go on from there.

My Ti-83 Plus won't come on. The screen is blank. I have just put new batteries in it. What could it be?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't do it, remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. Replace the batteries. The calculator should come on (you may have to adjust the contrast as described earlier).

Hello,
Probably nothing is wrong. Decrease the darkness of the screen
1.Press [2nd] key and release it
2.Press [ArrowDown] key and release it.
3.Repeat the two steps above in sequence until screen lightens up. You may have to repeat the cycle several times.
Hope it brightens your calculator screen and your day also.

The "color" on your screen reset to dark. You can adjust it by pressing "2nd" and the "up" arrow (or "2nd" and "down" arrow) repeatedly.
