Easy problem to solve, if you know anything about soldering. A fuse is blown, either the F1 or F2. Here is a website to solve this http://www.m3wiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_DS_Lite_:_Repair_a_broken_console_(blown_fuse).
It talks about the DS Lite, but down at the bottom it shows you how to fix an Original Style DS.

If you don't know anything about soldering or think that you might mess it up, then sell it on eBay. If you distinctly state the problem in the auction, my fellow repairmen will quickly snap it up for a good price. If you need to know more you can contact me at dracomaster007@yahoo.com or post a question here. I'll be glad to answer it.

My DS lite wouldnt switch on whilst i was on it so

It sounds like a faulty on off switch, when you turn it on it is not contacting fully, i had this problem with my grandsons ds lite, what i did was unscrew the ds, then looked to see if the push up and down on off switch was fully contacting when switching on, when i took the case off i could turn it on, i just made sure everything was in place and put the case back on, its ok now, i could be the on off switch had dislodged ater time, and just needed re locating, its nothing to do with getting a new battery.

Putin in charger orange light flashes then goes off an doesnt cha

Your DS is either fully charged or the battery got damaged/wet. When you play the DS, is the light red or flash red? If it does, then the problem is with your battery. http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/dslite_repair_home.jsp
Click on your country, then "System and Game Problems," then "Power and Battery Charging Problems."
Hope this helped.

Ds lite ac wall charger

When you first get the DS it will have a bit if charge on it but only a few hours worth. When the DS charges it usally comes up with a orange/red ish light then that goes out about a few hours later when its charged. ad if you want to chek if it is charging correcly turn the DS on whilst it is charging and the little battery simble in the top right corner should show the battery carging.

Ds light not coming on and charger not working

When I hooked up my DS with the charger the orange light would flicker for only a few seconds then turn off.

I found out that if you KEEP THE DS ON WHILE HOOKED UP the DS will charge. Although, because you are playing/DS is on the charging will go extremely slowly.

Best option, and what I did, was was just return/exchange it. I just did that today.

Ds lite

You never want to play the DS while it's charging, if constsntly persisted it can cause a form of battery leak.

IMPORTANT: Don't charge the DS until it dies on you completely!

When charging the DS the system will display a red light to show it's at its lowest energy, the time it takes to fully charge a DS can take up to 2-3 hours. In the second hour of charging the light will appear green but you don't want to disturb it until the light goes off. ( showing it's energy is full )
